Tennis Betting – Odds on the Davis Cup USA vs. Spain

With the Davis Cup quarterfinals looming this weekend, the US Davis Cup team, at +250 to win outright, almost had their hopes dashed when No.3 Andy Roddick suffered a left hamstring injury during the Miami Masters last week.

However, following an MRI earlier this week that revealed no serious injuries, Roddick has confirmed that he is all set to play for the US this weekend. This comes as a bit of a relief, as the US has not won the Davis Cup in a record twelve years.

Andy Roddick has been a regular fixture on the US Davis Cup team, holding a 22-9 win/loss record over the last six years. And, as their current No. 1 player, the US’s hope for a Davis Cup seem to rest solely on his shoulders.

With their No.2 player, James Blake tying all ten of his Davis Cup matches, the pressure on Andy Roddick to close the deal for the US is great. For that matter, considering that Andy Roddick is playing at a slight disadvantage, owing to his injury, the pressure for James Blake to come through for the US team is great as well.

Of course having Roddick on the squad greatly improves the Davis Cup odds for the US team to advance, at the very least to the semifinal round.  Particularly as the biggest obstacle to the US advancing, No. 2 Rafael Nadal, withdrew from Spain’s Davis Cup team due to a persistent foot injury.

With Tommy Robredo and Fernando Verdasco representing Spain, set at +700 to win outright, it should be safe to bet on Roddick to fulfill his Davis Cup duty for the US.

Bet on Andy Roddick and the Davis Cup in the Futures/props section of the BetUS sportsbook, under Tennis Futures, 2007 Davis Cup.
