Tennis Odds – ATP US Clay Court Championships Predictions

Houston, Texas – No. 1 seed Andy Roddick has pulled out of the US Clay Court Championships. Roddick, who was set to play his first round match today, was a -900 favorite against Albert Montanes +450. Instead, Albert Montanes advanced into the second round in an easy 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lucky Loser (LL) Alexander Peya.
Second seed James Blake defeated Davide Sanguinetti 6-3, 6-0; Amer Delic struggled through three sets before clinching the victory over Robert Kendrick 6-3, 1-6, 7-5; and Mardy Fish defeated Martin Arguello Vassallo in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
Still to be determined in the first round are the matchups of Tommy Haas vs. Sam Querrey; Alex Kuznetsov vs. Lars Burgsmuller; and Sebastien Grosjean vs. Diego Hartfield.

Prediction: No. 24 Mardy Fish, favored at -155, should have a relatively easy match against No. 156 Mariano Zabaleta. With a 1/3 YTD win/loss record at the start of this match, it would take a great feat for Zabaleta to advance past Fish into the third round.

Prediction: It is interesting to note that No. 661 Victor Hanescu leads 3-1 in head-to –heads against No. 28 Jurgen Melzer. However, despite Hanescu’s edge, Melzer, last year’s runner up at this tournament, should be the sure bet.
