Tennis Betting Line: Carlos Moya +115 Dmitry Tursunov -155

Tournament: ATP Open de Moselle, Metz, France

Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time Friday October 3, 2008

Carlos Moya (+115) Now Carlos Moya is an exceptional veteran player and whenever I come across a tennis betting line that has him disadvantaged on the money line I always consider risking a wager on him. Not just for sentimental reasons ( I am huge fan,) but because he has serious game.

By tennis standards at 32-years-old he may not be a spring chicken but he was once the World No.1 and he won Roland Garros in 1998. O.K. so those days are long gone for the Mallorcan but he is still a serious challenger in every match he enters and is capable of going deep at tournaments.

Why, most recently, in Bucharest, Moya was a finalist. He beat three compatriots (Martin, Andujar and Garcia-Lopez) and Richard Gasquet en route the final movement where he lost to Gilles Simon. On hard courts this summer he tallied a 5-4 mark; his best run was a quarterfinal push at the Cincinnati Masters (l. to Andy Murray).

Moya takes a 1-0 edge into this match but the last time he played Tursunov was at the 2004 Wimbledon Championships when he beat him in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 7-5.

Dmitry Tursunov (-155) Where does one begin when speculating on Tursunov? The Russian player is as hugely talented as he is inconsistent. He has a big serve, a huge forehand but a questionable mental game. Something always gives when he steps out on court and usually it is the mental aspect of his game.

Hard courts suit Tursunov’s game but the California resident tends to coast through matches and tournaments, doing just enough to hang out at a certain level but no more.

Tennis Betting Verdict: When Tursunov decides to compete – I mean really compete – is anyone’s guess. Only he knows when he will turn it on. Given that he has been rather apathetic of late, I don’t think he will show up to win tomorrow.
