I always tell bettors that the early rounds of professional tennis are probably the surest bets in all of sports. The favorites in these tournament, particularly the more prestigious tournament, are almost guaranteed to advance over their often far inferior opponents.
Of course, the output for these ‘lock’ wagers is usually a little high, but what do you expect for a guaranteed thing?
Here are my Sony Ericsson Open in Florida.

Ricardo Mello +1100
Rafael Nadal -4000
Nadal, is 2-0 lifetime against Mello and he will make it 3-0 here. World No. 2 Nadal (15-4 in 2007) should oust World No. 127 Mello in straight sets. If you’ve got a spare $4,000, take Nadal.

Paul Goldstein +600
Andy Murray -1200
These two players have never met, so you just never know how they’ll match up, but Murray is No. 12 in the World right now and Goldstein, No. 97, so Murray should advance here. The -1200 isn’t bad either.
Andy Murray

Martin Vassallo Arguello +1100
Andy Roddick -4000
These two guys have never played each other either, but Roddick (World No. 3) has recently taken his game to another level and should dispatch No. 62 Vassallo Arguello easily.
Andy Roddick
