Flushing Meadows, New York – Grand Slam event this season. Do not miss this final opportunity to bet on defending champion Federer, [2] Nadal, [3]Djokovic and [5] Roddick, amongst several others as they vie for the coveted title.
tennis picks - some came through and naturally some did not.
On the second day of the tournament, favorites [3] Novak Djokovic, [6] James Blake, [12] Ivan Ljubicic, [16] Lleyton Hewitt, amongst several others advanced into the second round. Blake tipped at -1800 with BetUS Sportsbook cruised past Michael Russell (+750) 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-6(4); Djokovic (-3000) easily topped Robin Haase (+1000) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3; Ljubicic held off Vliegen with a convincing 6-1 7-6(1) 6-1 victory; and Hewitt advanced with a straight set victory over Amer Delic 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
Fourth seed [4] Nikolay Davydenko easily topped Jesse Levine (USA) with a 6-4, 6-0, 6-1 victory. Amidst a lot of questions and speculation about his fitness and form, [19] Andy Murray kicked off his US Open campaign with a victory over Pablo Cuevas 6-2, 6-3, 6-0.
Also through in the top half of the draw was Sebastien Grosjean (-350), who received a free pass into the second round when Paul Goldstein (+225) retired (Grosjean was leading 6-1, 4-1); Igor Andreev, who defeated Robert Kendrick (USA) in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-4; Feliciano Lopez, who dismissed [21] Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-3, 6-4, 6-4; Philipp Petzschner, who battled back from two sets down to defeat Benjamin Becker 2-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-1; and Simone Bolelli, who eliminated Julien Benneteau in four sets 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
On the not so bright side, America’s emerging talent Sam Querrey was upset in his opening match. After getting off to a great start in the match, Querrey, favored at -500 by BetUS Sportsbook, missed six opportunities to close out the first set. His failure to convert was his undoing, as Querry quickly faded away in straight sets 7-6(1) 6-1, 6-1 to Stefan Koubek (+300).
What's more [22] Paul Henri Mathieu and {32] Ivo Karlovic crashed out of the tournament in their opening matches. Mathieu and Karlovic were largely responsible for dubbing Roddick’ corner one of the tougher sections. With their untimely exit, Roddick’s corner suddenly looks all the more brighter and easier.
Mathieu (-175) allowed a two set lead slip away when he allowed Verdasco (+135) to not only battle back but take the match in five sets 3-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. The Mathieu’s early exit bodes well for Andy Roddick as his corner of the draw suddenly seems brighter. Karlovic fell behind two sets before launching a come back. Battling back, Karlovic took the match into a fifth deciding set only to lose to Clement with a 7-6(5), 6-4, 4-6, (6)6-7, 6-4.
