With Roger Federer out of the Pacific Life Open, the playing field is suddenly wide open in the Men’s draw. As the fourth round sets to kick-off today, let us take a look at the tennis odds that are shaping up with BetUS.com for the head-to-heads.
Top half of the draw
Prediction: World No. 15 David Ferrer is favored in this matchup against World No. 36 Carlos Moya. Moya leads 5-1 in head-to-heads and his odds are even against Ferrer. With the most recent win at the 2006 ATP Masters Series Cincinnati going the way of Ferrer, the young Spaniard is certainly expected to top the veteran Moya and advance to the quarterfinals.
However, should Moya be dismissed so quickly? After all, in the third round, he dismissed Guillermo Canas who was coming off of his spectacular victory over Roger Federer, a feat that only two players accomplished last year!
Pick: While this matchup could go the way of either player, Moya in two sets.
Prediction Twelfth seed and World No. 13 Novak Djokovic is favored to advance to the next round against World No. 46 Julien Benneteau, and should live up to expectations. However, at a price tag of +300, Julien Benneteau, who holds a 1-0 lead in head-to-heads, could be a bet worth considering. Should he cash in on his underdog status, a $100 bet would payout triple!!!
Pick: Benneteau for the upset in two sets
Prediction Third seed and World No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko arrives as the underdog against the thirteenth seed and World No.14 Andy Murray. With their head-to-heads at a close 2-1 in favor of Davydenko, this matchup could go the way of either player. The first set will seal the deal for either player. Should Murray get off to a quick start and grab the first set, his chance of advancing would be almost certain. However, should the first set go in favor of Davydenko, then his odds are greatly improved, as Murray has yet to orchestrate a comeback down a set to Davydenko.
Pick: Davydenko in two sets
Prediction Perhaps the most anticipated match in the fourth round is the rematch between World No. 9 Tommy Haas and World No. 5 Fernando Gonzalez. The last meeting between these two players was at the semifinal round of the 2007 Australian Open where Gonzalez danced around Haas in straight sets 6-1 6-3 6-1. Should the same Fernando Gonzalez that we saw at the Australian Open set foot on court today, then his price tag of +105 is a bet worth taking. Haas will not stand a chance.
Of course, in the last month, Haas has stepped up and been playing exceptionally well. He may very well look to redeem himself against Gonzalez.
Pick: Gonzalez in straight sets
