Flushing Meadows, New York – No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko and No.10 Tommy Haas are set to meet in the quarterfinal of the Sportsbook has Davydenko favored at - 220 for the win.
Tommy Haas (1st Set) +120
Tennis Prediction: No.4 Nikolay Davydenko holds a slim edge over Tommy Haas, a 2-1 lifetime record. In 2006, Davydenko and Haas ironically met in the quarterfinals. The victory went to Davydenko in five sets, after Haas let a two set lead slip through his fingers 4-6, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Clearly, Davydenko holds value as the -220 favorite in this matchup.
However, I like Haas’s odds in this matchup. At +170 Haas is virtually a steal. Why? Well, to arrive into the quarterfinals, Haas bested James Blake in five sets, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(4), under perhaps one of the toughest conditions for a player – playing against the home crowds’ favorite. Haas earned his place in the final eight not only with his mental resilience, but with some spectacular shotmaking as well.
Further strengthening Haas’s value in this matchup is a 1-0 lead over Davydenko in 2007, owing to a victory at the quarterfinals of the 2007 Australian Open (hard).
In this opportunity to avenge his US Open quarterfinal loss to Davydenko, Haas is an underdog to bank on.
