He won the Stellar Artois Championship title, beating some stiff opposition in Novak Djokovic ( in the semis and final respectively). Reached the final of the 2008 Wimbledon championships – his best performance in the convincing display of power tennis in his 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Andy Murray in the quarterfinal – and having dropped just one set along the way.

There is more riding on this match than just a Grand Slam final. If Nadal wins, the changing of the guard may finally happen. But it will not be the exchange everyone expected at the start of the 2008 season when Djokovic, winner of the 2008 Australian Open, was elected as the prime candidate to reshuffle the deck. Federer will no longer be the undisputed No.1 player in the World. The decline may become a reality. The player to depose the King would be the one who has been second fiddle to Federer in the rankings for three years – Rafael Nadal.
