UFC 129 Odds – Machida Looks to Spoil Couture’s Goodbye at UFC 129

Traditionally an athlete in a particular sport isn’t recognized as a Hall of Famer until after they have retired, but in the case of Randy “The Natural” Couture and the Ultimate Fighting Championships there is an obvious exception.

Whether it’s UFC president Dana White’s habit of doing things his own way or the ridiculous age that Couture is still competing at, the UFC Hall of Famer will step into the octagon for one last bout against Lyota “The Dragon” Machida at UFC 129. Here’s a look at the UFC 129 odds:

UFC 129 Odds: Randy Couture (19-10-0) vs. Lyota Machida (16-2-0)

Saturday April 30, 2011

Rogers Centre, Toronto, Canada

Broadcast: Pay-Per-View

UFC 129 Odds: Lyota Machida -350

It seems fitting an event that is projected to set records for both attendance and revenues is also the setting for the final contest of one of the most well recognized names in Mixed Martial Arts. But while much of the attention has been on Couture’s last stand, the importance of this fight to Machida has slipped under the radar.

Leading Up To UFC 129 Odds: Randy Couture

The ageless wonder was one of the original names that helped build the sport to what it has become today, competing all across the world against some of the biggest names in MMA over the past 14 years. A former Olympic alternate in Greco-Roman Wrestling, Couture has managed to remain at the top of his game for as many years as he has due to his countless hours in the gym and dedication to his body. Couture will attempt to end his career on a four-fight win streak after earning victories in his past three bouts, including his past two via submission. While he deserves credit for what he has done against opponents such as Brandon Vera, Mark Coleman, and James Toney, Machida will represent another level in terms of talent.

Leading Up To UFC 129 Odds: Lyota Machida

With the majority of the attention on Couture and his pending retirement, Machida has been able to quietly prepare for what will be a crucial bout in his career. The 32-year old Brazilian was at the peak of his career a couple of years ago when he knocked out Rashad Evans to clinch the UFC Light Heavyweight title, but after surviving a fight that went to the judge’s decision against Shogun Rua things have trended downward. Machida lasted just over three minutes into his tilt with Shogun before being knocked out with a fury of punches, and didn’t have any luck six months later when he lost out on another chance at the belt when he couldn’t solve Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in a fight that was decided by split decision. This contest will mark a crossroads in Machida’s career, and he will have to leave everything he has on the table.

UFC 129 Odds Matchup: Couture vs. Machida

This will be a crucial matchup for both fighters but for entirely different reasons, and although Couture will be determined to go out on a high note, the edge has to go to Machida with so much more on the line. The Dragon will look to re-establish his self as one of the top competitors in the 205-pound division, and that will begin with a win over a UFC legend.
