Cain Velasquez (4-0) vs. Denis Stojnic (12-1)

The Cain Velasquez fight versus Denis Stojnic will be the second-to-last bout on UFC Fight Night on Saturday, February 6th.

The matchup is among the more enticing fights on the card and not just because both are talented heavyweights.

Velasquez, a two-time All-American wrestler, is a rookie but he’s 4-0 while Stojnic, a Bosnian kickboxer, is somewhat of a wild card.

Although not many people know much about him, he often draws comparisons to other successful wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture. Granted, it’s a little early to make those comparisons.

While Velasquez is obviously good on the ground, he is an excellent striker as well, which gives him a good combination. Needless to say, that deadly combination is why he’s a -650 favorite on the UFC lines.

Stojnic is an unknown commodity and the spotlight might be a little hot on his back and this will be his first fight in the primetime. What seems to be known about him is that he is a pretty good striker, but his ground game is a mystery.

Pundits seem to think that his ground game is non-existent, which means he could be in some serious trouble against a wrestler who would love nothing more than to end it on the mat.

Velasquez has a good history of ending fights in the first round, so if you have a UFC prop for Velasquez in a first round knockout, you might want to take a look at it. Otherwise, this matchup looks like it is a stepping stone for Velasquez, who appears poised for bigger and better things. Stojnic is unknown but him pulling the surprise is unlikely, especially if he can’t take Velasquez to the ground.
