UFC betting: Penn and Florian ready to do battle

Detractors of mixed martial arts and BJ Penn and Kenny Florian is proof that professionalism most certainly still exists in the sport.

Penn, who is favored on UFC 101 odds, and Florian are two of the most humble, gracious and kind-hearted men in the sport. Both are sure to bow before every bout, and unlike many contests inside the octagon these days, Penn and Florian have not exchanged any sort of heated words during the buildup. While promoters (ahem…Dana White) may encourage outlandish, childish behavior (ahem…Brock Lesnar), purists and fans of sports in general appreciate two combatants showing true respect while in battle.

Fans of any sort, however, respect the abilities of these two men. Penn specifically is considered one of the best pure athletes not only in the sport of MMA, but in the world at large. He has often been criticized for his lack of commitment or effort in training, however for the first time in his career, Penn has taken his camp outside of his native Hawaii. Those close to him have cited that he looks as focused and determined as he has ever been.

If the reports are true, this is bad news for Florian, who is a significant underdog (+190) at BetUS. Penn is a striker with near heavyweight power, however Florian is one of the best defensive fighters in the game. Rarely does he engage in any difficult situations, and his in-ring technique looks every bit as effortless as Penn’s. However, KenFlo has not shown that he has the destructive knockout power that Penn possesses, which may turn out to be the X-factor in this bout.

There is most certainly some UFC betting value on Florian, considering the poor condition Penn has arrived in for past contests. However, MMA betting experts will tell you that on his worst day, Penn’s natural talent can propel him over virtually any fighter in the sport.

For a safe bet, head over to the BetUS sportsbook and lay it down on pound for pound king BJ Penn (-240) to take the victory by knockout!
