Luiz Cane (10-1-0-1) vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3-0)

The only other light heavyweight fight on the main card is the battle of two giants within the division, Luiz Cane and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. This fight will pit two of Brazil’s top contenders for the light heavyweight championship. The winner will have to be considered “right there” in terms of a shot at the title.

Leading up to UFC 106: Luiz Cane

Cane is an up and coming light heavyweight prospect that far too many people don’t know about yet. In his last 11 fights, Cane is 10-1 with his only loss coming via disqualification as a result of knees thrown to the head while his opponent - James Irvin  - was on the ground. So not only is he good, he’s ruthless.

Cane has been training with close friend Thiago Alves at American Top Team - one of the top MMA camps out there. With his most recent wins coming against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Steve Cantwell it looks like it’s time to introduce a new contender at the 205 weight class.

Leading up to UFC 106: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is the identical twin brother of the heavyweight contender with almost an identical name, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The younger of the twins has been on a tear as of late winning his last five fights with only one going to a decision.

Nogueira will be making his UFC debut, but with notable wins over Dan Henderson and Vladimir Matyushenko, has proved he is no rookie. Coming out of PRIDE, the smaller of the Nogueira brothers brings an experienced presence to the UFC and with a win over Cane could steal all the thunder that he has built for himself.

UFC 106 Betting: Cane versus Nogueira Matchup

Luiz Cane is legit and he’s hungry. He is a devastating striker as demonstrated by his first nine fights where they all ended in the first round, seven of which ending by KO or TKO. Cane will definitely be looking to keep the fight standing, and if he is able to, will win this fight.

Nogueira is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trained fighter and just like his twin brother will be looking to secure a submission victory. That being said he has won previous fights via the knockout so look for Nogueira to stand and trade if the takedown isn’t going the way he planned.

These fighters know each other and are both comfortable in each other’s specialty areas so gear up for a well measured fight. This is another potential fight of the night.

UFC 106 Betting: Outlook & Pick

Despite both fighters well rounded games and knowledge of each other, Luiz Cane is the stronger fighter. He is on a tear and knows what he is doing.

The fighters will take a good portion of time to feel each other out. The fight will intensify as the feeling out process concludes and look for a solid striking exchange to follow. Nogueira will score his takedowns but Cane will weather the storm and keep him in his guard.

When the fight is brought back to the feet Cane will do enough damage over the duration to secure the victory.

Pick: Cane will win a close contest, possibly even by split-decision
