UFC 109 Betting - Couture vs. Coleman in a Battle of Legends
by Dave D

Randy Couture (17-10-0) vs. Mark Coleman (16-9-0)
UFC Betting Line: Couture -400
Randy Couture and Mark Coleman will be the headlining event at UFC 109 and it will be the first time in UFC history that two Hall of Famers will step into the Octagon against each other. For the newer class of MMA fans, Couture versus Coleman is just a battle of two past-their-prime fighters but to the hardcore UFC fans that have been there from day one, this will be quite a treat. This is a fight between two legends.
Leading Up To UFC 109: Randy Couture
Randy Couture is a legend in the UFC and while he’s on the border as to whether he should retire or not, a win in his most recent bout means that he’ll continue. Couture topped Brandon Vera by decision at UFC 105 and that was an important bounce back for The Natural after two straight defeats.
With so many injuries in the heavyweight division, it is actually conceivable that Couture gets another shot at a title in the near future, so he is focused.
Leading Up To UFC 109: Mark Coleman
Of the two fighters, Mark Coleman is closer to retirement and a lot of people are surprised that he’s still hanging on. He fought twice in 2009 and the results were mixed.
He fought Mauricio Rua in a very sloppy match that resulted in a loss and then he got a decision win over Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100.
Overall, it’s nice to see the Hall of Famer fight again but a lot of people are wondering how good he actually is at this point in his career.
UFC 109 Betting: Couture vs. Coleman Matchup
Both of these fighters in their late 40’s and both of them are past their prime. There is no question. But the reality is that Couture has fought better competition of late while Coleman has been fighting scrubs.
Sure, Coleman’s battle with Rua looks pretty good now after Rua went toe-to-toe with Lyoto Machida but that was a different Rua than the one we saw gasp for breath against Coleman. After that, Coleman basically saved his UFC career by topping Stephan Bonnar.
Overall, Couture is the better fighter and he’s got the better future. Expect him to top Coleman, which will either send The Hammer into retirement or into a battle with Chuck Liddell.
Pick: Couture
