UFC 110 Fight Odds: Noguiera vs Velasquez

Bookmark and Share by Dave D

The UFC is set for their Australian debut at the sold out Acer Arena in Syndey, Australia and the two fighters in the main event will be looking to make a big statement.

With injuries to Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin in the UFC’s heavyweight division, an opening has been created for both Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez to step up.

The two fighters are at different points in their career as Noguiera is in a grey area where fans are deciding whether he’s in the twilight or in a mid-career surge. Meanwhile, Velasquez is an undefeated up-and-comer who has looked good so far.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1) vs Cain Velasquez (7-0)
UFC 110 Odds:
Antonio Nogueira -110
Velasquez -120

The experienced Nogueira will be the toughest test to date for Velasquez, so we’ll find out quickly if he’s up for it.

Leading Up To UFC 110: Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera

Big Nog may have 39 fights under his belt but he’s only 33-years-old, which isn’t young in the UFC but it’s not old. When you look back through his career, he only has five losses but all were to elite MMA fighters. He has two losses and a draw with Fedor Emilianenko, and also lost to Josh Barnett, Dan Henderson and Frank Mir. Also, he had barely gotten over a staph infection when he fought Mir.

Nogueira is a very good fighter and a heavyweight champion. He’s not an over-the-hill joke of any sort and he is more than capable of being a champion again.

Leading Up To UFC 110: Cain Velasquez

Cain Velasquez has been very impressive in his brief MMA career and while he’s not a household name, Nogueira knows to take him seriously.

Sure, he’s only got seven bouts under his belt but he has looked dominant in each one.

Velasquez is one of the most talented, young heavyweights around but make no mistake. This is a step up in competition. His best wins are against Cheick Kongo and Ben Rothwell. Nogueira is significantly better than them.

UFC 110 Betting: Nogueira vs Velasquez Matchup

This is going to be a close, even fight between two rounded fighters. Velasquez has the youth, speed and conditioning advantage whereas Nogueira has the experience and the savvy.

Velasquez is an excellent wrestler but Nogueira has excellent take down defense. He’s also strong with submissions. Standing, it is also fairly even.

Velasquez’ stamina will keep this close but this will be one of those losses that makes him a better fighter in the long run. Nogueira has been through 39 fights while Velasquez has only had seven. That will play a factor as Big Nog gets the decision.
