UFC 113 – Full Card Preview with Odds

The Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua main event is reason enough to tune into Saturday night’s UFC 113 event. With so much controversy in surrounding their first bout, these guys must be counting down the minutes until its go time so they can settle this thing once and for all. But that’s just the headliner; there are a slew of other entertaining fights on the card including a very interesting matchup between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley as well as a title featuring the street brawler himself, Kimbo Slice.

Light Heavyweight Championship - Machida (-185) vs. Rua (+155)

This is a rematch between arguably the two best light heavyweights in the history of the UFC. Everyone has beaten the controversy story to death from their first fight, but what we learned from that tilt is that Machida can look ordinary, which isn’t easy to do. Rua appeared to be in the head of Machida, which is so rare seeing as how it’s The Dragon who is usually always two steps ahead of his opponents.

But doing it once, and losing, is one thing, but trying to out fight and out think Machida two fights in a row is a very taunting task. Rua knows how to be successful if Machida sits back and doesn’t press the action, but the Dragon isn’t likely to try to win the fight by letting Rua come to him. He is going to be much more aggressive as he clearly has something to prove.

Josh Koscheck (-230) vs. Paul Daley (+180)

This tilt has the potential to be fight of the night. Paul Daley can throw absolute bombs and Koscheck has learned how to knock people out, and when you combine that with two guys that have been talking as much trash as these two, that all adds up to fireworks.

The war of words will benefit Daley, that is if Koscheck is really caught up in it, because his best shot is if Kos stands and trades with him in a show of who is the “tougher” man. Koscheck’s arrogance has hurt him in the past as his love affair with being able to knock people out has led to him abandoning his bread and butter, wrestling. This fight stays on the feet, I give the edge to Daley, but if they go to the ground, Koscheck will dominate.

Sam Stout (-200) vs. Jeremy Stephens (+160)

This is a battle between two guys that throw bombs and have chins of steel, something’s got to give. Stout is a native of Canada and will have the place rocking when he enters the cage, but it will be interesting to see how he handles the big stage. Stephens is a veteran guy that needs to show something in this fight, so laying some coin with Stephens at +160 isn’t a bad move.

Kimbo Slice (-115) vs. Matt Mitrione (-115)

From YouTube star to actual mixed martial artist, Kimbo Slice steps back in the octagon against fellow Ultimate Fighter cast member and former NFL lineman, Matt Mitrione. I, and everyone else would like to see a stand up brawl, but if Slice’s last performance against Houston Alexander was any indication, this may be more of a take down and pound performance from Slice. Mitrione doesn’t have much in terms of takedown defense, so Slice is my pick in this fight.

Patrick Côté (-105) vs. Alan Belcher (-125)

This is a big night for Cote who finally makes his return from a knee injury. A nearly two-year layoff is a long time away from the game, but if he is able to find the form he had pre-injury, he would have a shot to win this fight. That’s a big if though, and I think Belcher will be the crisper striker and comes away with the victory.
