World Cup Free Picks – Netherlands Hamstrung By Robben’s Injury
by Tim Furious

Star winger Arjen Robben won’t be on the field when the Netherlands take on Denmark as we try to sort out Group E in 2010 World Cup Betting. Nobody in their right mind is picking Cameroon, Denmark or Japan to win the group stage outright as the Netherlands but the injury to Robben is very worrisome.
The Dutch have refrained from calling up a replacement, and despite all the sweating bullets in the betting public, the Netherlands are still getting steep odds to trounce Denmark. If the winger has any semblance of an aggravation, then the Dutch will likely pull him. They’ve already put him in danger during a friendly, and losing him throughout the tournament would lead to utter heartbreak.
It’s a stifling blow to Robben, but it’s most certainly not a death strike to the Netherlands’ World Cup Odds in the group stage. Hamstrings injuries are the most annoying ones athletes can get, and because of the muscle’s length, it’s a difficult one to fully rehab given the grueling pace of soccer as a game, heightened organically by the pressure of World Cup betting.
The Netherlands has advanced to the finals twice in 1974 and 1978, and since have finished no higher than their fourth place effort in 1998. They are usually a lock to enter the Round of 16, and it’s almost unthinkable that Denmark will cause any major fits on the World Cup betting line.

Denmark will have its work cut out for them, and scoring will be a big question mark. Nicklas Bendtner is considered their star player, and perhaps the biggest wrinkle in their odds to advance in Group E is Simon Kjaer, a 21-year old defender with a powerful set of legs. Kjaer will play alongside Daniel Agger making it very difficult for the Dutch to crack open the scoreboard, especially with Robben at least slightly injured.
Still, experience for Denmark is the plaguing issue for this team. Christian Eriksen is another star player for them, but he’s just 18-years old and will have an unenviable amount of responsibility at midfield.
Denmark has consistently been a team of promise that has never realized its potential. I’d say that they’re much more poised to cause a riot in 2014, and they’ll learn the lessons the hard way when the Dutch run rampant on them to open up their World Cup betting record.
As much as I like the Netherlands in Group E, I’m a big admirer of the defensive set that Denmark puts out. That’s why Denmark’s handicap is a solid pick, especially since its likely to be pushed in a 1-0 win for the Netherlands. If Denmark can at least find the net once, it’ll give you solid returns.
Soccer betting is tricky, and you have to find the right value. With a staunch defense, a blowout isn’t in the works for the Dutch.
