Can Jake Paul Become a Boxing World Champion?
Could Jake Paul Become a World Champion, or Is He Just In It for the Entertainment?
Jake Paul, A Boxing World Champ? Surely Not…
Believe it or not, Jake ‘The Problem Child’ Paul, the social media star turned pro boxer, who’s been ridiculed as a ‘fraud’ since evolving his brand to center around the art of pugilism, is now legitimately being considered as a future world title contender in boxing news.
Paul, 28, holds an 11-1 record with seven knockouts. Of course, the majority of his in-ring success has come against non-boxers, and that’s the area that has formed many sceptics and haters.

However, those same doubters might be faced with some harsh truths sooner in the Ohio native’s career than we expected because boxing rumors are now tying the Problem Child to his potential of becoming a world champion – something nobody thought was possible just a few years back.
“I think it could happen in the next 24 months,” Paul said regarding his chance of winning a world boxing championship. “I truly, truly believe in my skills and my ability and my power.”
Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after 1 amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion. I just defeated the baddest man on the planet and broke multiple records, and now I’m going against a former world champion with… pic.twitter.com/Gah6tqQofG

How Can Jake Paul Win a Championship?
However, listen, Jake Paul becoming a world champion is more than just the words coming from his mouth; it has slowly evolved into a reality.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has gone on record to state that if Paul defeats his upcoming opponent, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., this weekend, a position in the official WBC rankings awaits him.
“My personal opinion is yes, we do have a rankings committee, but I believe he has done enough and he has received all the backlash for several years,” Sulaiman said. “If he beats Chavez Jr, I think that puts him in a different position.”
With the WBC rules stating that a boxer must be ranked within the top 15 to receive an opportunity at gold, it would seem that Paul could be two wins shy of achieving the dream.

Chavez Jr. Is A Short Cut to WBC Ranking
Naturally, this will leave a sour taste in the mouths of many. It’s obvious what’s going on here. While he’s not the greatest boxer, despite the constant favorable boxing match odds, Paul is certainly one of the greatest promoters, and that’s precisely why any governing body in boxing would give him a ranking based on the weak resume he currently owns.
“I can’t imagine a cruiserweight champion not wanting to voluntarily defend against Jake and make an enormous amount of money,” Sulaiman commented.
And with that statement, we know it’s not about talent or decades of work dedicated to the craft, it’s about giving Paul the easiest route to a title fight because he’s a money-maker.
Which brings us to the upcoming Jake Paul fight date; Chavez Jr., 39, is a legit talent who Paul will battle this weekend, but the Mexican’s prime fighting days ended a long time ago.
Furthermore, he recently lost to Anderson Silva, a former UFC legend whom Paul has already defeated.

And on that note, we might have to accept the fact that Paul could be challenging for championship gold soon, should he get past a semi-retired Chavez Jr., which the current boxing odds show is the most probable outcome.
The current WBC cruiserweight champion, Badou Jack, the potential champion Paul would need to beat to become champion, is also conveniently aged 41. And dare I say, love it or hate it, we might watch Paul become a world champion without having to fight an opponent in their prime fighting years or even close to his age, thus giving him a clear and direct path to silencing those that doubted him without needing the lifelong experience most champions require.
