Charlo and Castano Ready To Run It Back

WBC, WBA and IBF titles on the Line

Jermell Charlo puts his three super welterweight titles on the line Saturday against Brian Castano.

The first meeting ended in a draw, which divided boxing pundits. However, Charlo is the clear favorite with boxing betting odds this time around.

Champion Going Old School

Jermell Charlo is no stranger to the limelight, but he’s adapting a more old school approach to the rematch.

The showy 31-year-old didn’t have a great training camp when scoring a split-decision draw against Castano, but the champion has knuckled down this camp and is doing all the little things correctly.

“I wanna say that I came in this [rematch] doing it the old school way right now,” Charlo told Boxing Scene.

“You know, at first I was just being superstar Jermell Charlo. This is like about me digging deeper into the Jermell Charlo that I really am. I’m trying to test myself into deeper waters with everything, with training and swimming and just running and just everything.”

Charlo has been able to bounce back from the loss to Tony Harrison in 2018, so we have little doubt about his ability to bounce back from a draw.

He won his rematch with Harrison with an 11th-round knockout, so that should be at the forefront of his mind when facing Castano for the second time.

He followed up that fight with another knockout win over Jeison Rosario, which shows his ability to score late victories.

The sportsbook has Charlo at -200 and that’s the boxing odds we expected. He is the champion and a more focused Charlo is a dangerous fighter.

Don’t Underestimate Castano

Brian Castano came within a whisker of having the belts wrapped around his waist, but he’ll need to wait until Saturday to realize his dream.

The 32-year-old Argentine looked to have done enough to beat Charlo in July, but the judges were torn.

He wasn’t a household name before the first fight and even with that fight under his belt, he continues to remain underestimated.

“The (first) fight against Charlo was seen by a lot of people, and a lot of them asked themselves ‘yo, who’s this guy?’,” said Castano.

“I am going to leave everything in the ring, as usual. As the fight progresses I will continue working harder and harder. I have to be that Castano who throws punches non-stop and takes punishment. It is part of my essence, and I will have to bring that 100% on that night in order to bring those belts back home.”

Betting online markets have Castano at +165, which is a value price. He showed his value at his last fight, so bettors shouldn’t overlook his chances at the odds.

He owns 12 knockout wins from 19 fights and he has yet to lose. Being an undefeated fighter is always exciting and his other draw came against Erislandy Lara, so he hasn’t been dodging the tough opponents.
