Is This Real? Drake vs Kendrick Lamar Boxing Match Odds!

Who does not love a classic hip-hop beef? It feels like over 20 years since we last saw the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, and Eminem all “go to war” lyrically. While beef always existed, Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar is the type of “big name” matchup we haven’t seen since 50 Cent and Ja Rule went at it. And why not settle it in the boxing ring? We’ve got boxing betting odds for that.

No, seriously. The sportsbook was nice enough to open lines on a hypothetical boxing match between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. It’s even set at pick’em prices of -120 on each side. Now, this may never happen though we’re not ruling it out entirely. We are in an era where celebrity boxing is prevalent.

If we can see YouTube stars and has-been pros go at it, why not two of hip hop’s all-timers? We’ll dissect this potential matchup and elucidate on why they are beefing.

Drake vs Kendrick: a Beef Stewing for 15+ Years?

If you’re only hearing about Drake vs Kendrick now, you are about 15 years too late. These hip-hop prodigies have been taking shots at each other since before both were mainstream. But we’ll go back to 2013 when Kendrick started to break through as an artist.

Featured in Big Sean’s “Control”, Kendrick dropped a verse, which aimed at several notable hip-hop stars like Drake.

I got love for you all, but I’m trying to murder you,” he rapped. “Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you.

Drake responded casually by saying, “I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform,” via a Billboard cover story. Kendrick then took a jab at Drake during the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards in which both had numerous nominations and wins.

From here, things seemed to settle down, at least publicly. Drake was preoccupied with other feuds. He tangled with Meek Mill in 2015 and Pusha T in 2018. However, J Cole dropped what would now be an infamous verse on his song “First Person Shooter”:

Love when they argue the hardest MC / Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? We the big three like we started a league / but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.

This was a reference to Kendrick and Drake’s names (the latter of which is his birth name: Aubrey Graham).

Boy did this open a can of worms. Kendrick and Drake responded in what would be the start of a series of diss tracks aimed at each other. For the past six weeks, the lyricists have traded barbs at such a rate that they became the most popular artists outside of Taylor Swift.

And while it appears that Drake has momentarily conceded to Kendrick, only God knows when this beef will get reignited.

Who Would Win a Fight Between Kendrick Lamar and Drake?

The oddsmakers setting the line even-steven is merely a formality. It’s tough to gauge which of the rappers is the better fighter. Drake is often accused as a “soft” rapper while Kendrick appears more hardened if you listen to his rapping style. But on the flip side, Drake is larger than Kendrick.

The man who claims to be the “6 God” stands at 6’0” at around 195 pounds (88 kilograms). In contrast, Kendrick Lamar is only 5’6” at around 147 lbs. (67 kg). This is a significant size difference.

If we went by boxing weight divisions, Drake could cut down to light heavyweight (175 lbs.). That’s the division of Dmitry Bivol and fellow Canadian Artur Beterbiev. Kendrick will be fighting in the light welterweight (140 lbs.) division, which is where Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia just competed at.

Given the size disparity, Drake may have an edge. The Torontonian has also trained in boxing albeit casually. Even if Kendrick has as well, he will need a serious skill advantage to make up for his lack of size.

Of course, they say that it’s all about “the fight in the dog” and not the other way around. If Kendrick proves to be as fierce as his lyrics, he may just beat the more mild-mannered Drake.

Will we ever find out? Maybe never. But this is an opportunity that is too good to pass up. Should their beef restart, someone like Jake Paul of MVP Promotions should pitch a boxing match. It will easily sell over a million pay-per-view buys. And we’ll be all over the sports betting lines when it’s announced.
