Boxing fans get a feast of boxing action to see in the New Year as the Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin undercard has three quality bouts.
Headlining the undercard is another bout between Jonathan Rice and Michael Coffie. Rice won the first meeting in July and should be an exciting co-main event in Florida on Saturday.
Boxing betting odds have close fights predicted, so we’re in for some exciting action.
Rice Ready to Cook
Jonathan Rice doesn’t have the most imposing record at 14-6-1, but the 34-year-old American made a statement against Michael Coffie.
The unheralded fighter caused a ruckus when scoring a TKO win over the former undefeated Coffie, who is looking to get his revenge.
Coffie had a perfect 12-0 record prior to the shock defeat, which was a big boil-over with the sportsbook.
The stunning performance was a total domination for the underdog, who will be keen to show that it wasn’t a fluke.
Many fight fans are expecting Coffie to bounce back, but the heavyweight could only do body damage in July. He wasn’t close to the head of Rice, who could inflict more damage.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Rice adopted the same strategy and pressed Coffie throughout the fight. The pressure could be too much for the 10th-best heavyweight in the United States.
Experience Key for Washington
Gerald Washington takes on Ali Eren Demirezen on the undercard and it could be an instant classic.
Washington is the more experienced fighter at 20-4-1, and despite losing four fights in the last four years, he has been fighting top-level opponents.
The American heavyweight suffered his first defeat against Deontay Wilder before adding losses to Jarrell Miller, Adam Kownacki and Charles Martin.
His win over Robert Helenius is a good form guide and we expect betting online markets to have Washington favored over his opponent.
Demirezen is 14-1, but he hasn’t faced anyone close to the level of Washington. He lost to Efe Ajagba in 2019 before bouncing back with three consecutive wins.
However, one of those wins came against a 9-18-2 fighter, so the quality of opposition hasn’t been there.
“Ali is a talented boxer who won 14 of the 15 matches he played in the professional ring and finished 11 of them with a knockout,” promotional advisor Vedat Alyaz told SonsesTV.
Betting lines will be in favor of a Washington win via knockout and we would be surprised if it was any other result.
Bettors should feel confident of Washington bouncing back.
Faust Climbs Rankings
There is plenty of hype surrounding Ukrainian boxer Viktor Faust, who is 8-0 with six wins by knockout.
The 29-year-old has taken it slow and steady to start his professional career and a win over Iago Kiladze would see his stock rise.
Kiladze has the experience advantage at 27-5-1, and he’s the top-rated Georgian fighter in the world. He hasn’t been fighting elite boxers, but his experience edge can’t be overlooked.
He also trains out of Los Angeles, so being in that environment won’t hurt his chances.
Faust is rated slightly higher in the world heavyweight rankings. He comes in at 59th, and although he hasn’t fought anyone of note, he has ended the unbeaten run of two fighters.
We wouldn’t leave Faust off our tickets as he looks like an exciting fighter on the rise.
