Carlos Adames defends his WBC interim middleweight title against former light middleweight champion Julian Williams. A win for either boxer could put them in line to fight Jermall Charlo in a unification bout. If the boxing betting lines prove true, it will be Adames getting his hand raised as he is the moderate favorite. He has the power to beat Williams, though the latter has emerged as an underdog before.
Adames has the Power, but …
Adames is favored by Las Vegas’ boxing odds. Furthermore, he’s also expected to knock out Williams at odds of -210. Anything short of this could be a disappointment for the man that just beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Of course, this puts the pressure on Adames as he may just gun for that knockout a bit too hard. He has the power edge over Williams and should also be the more durable of the two. But if he chases it too hard, the wily challenger may just outmaneuver him. Adames has been on the wrong end of an upset before as Patrick Teixeira beat him in an interim title fight.
Adames is wiser after that defeat, which is his only blemish. He needed to outlast Derevyanchenko and it’s a big confidence booster for him. But, he was the underdog in that bout. It’s a different story when he’s defending the belt as the favorite.
Williams Looks to Triumph as Underdog
Williams looks to make boxing news with another big upset. He ended Jarrett Hurd’s reign to capture the unified light middleweight titles. It was a barnburner of a fight and one that elevated WIlliams’ stock. But what comes around goes around as Williams was upset in the next fight against Jeison Rosario.
So Williams moved up to middleweight. And even after losing a close fight to Vladimir Hernandez, he bounced back and beat Rolando Mansilla. Now, he has the chance to win the interim belt and set up a rematch with the first man to hand him a loss: Charlo.
For WIlliams to do it, he’ll have to box nearly flawlessly. Adames may be the hardest puncher he’ll face since Charlo and his chin has been checked one too many times. Given his odds, it’s not a terrible idea to bet online on Williams. He’ll either engineer another glorious upset or he’ll be saved by the referee. Regardless, he’ll bring the heat.

It would also be foolhardy for him to stand and trade punches with the more potent champion. Thus, our hearts are with Williams but our money is on Adames.
