“La Princesita” returns to action this Saturday as she defends her WBO and IBF junior flyweight belts against Yairineth Altuve. Evelyn Nazarena Bermudez should be heavily favored on the boxing odds tonight as she’s unbeaten and has made short work of all her opponents. Altuve is on a short-notice fight, thus making this even tougher for the challenger.
Bermudez vs Altuve: Overnight Heroics
Boxing fighters coming on late notice typically do not fare well. If Altuve can flip that narrative, she’ll also unseat one of the three best active junior flyweights. But Bermudez has been on a roll since capturing the belt back in 2018. She’s also a bit bigger than Altuve and has the edge in her strength of competition.
Altuve: Token Can Crusher
Altuve is not just a pro boxer, but a physical education teacher and a boxing coach. The Venezuelan, like most female boxers, is a part-timer. But she’s been active and is on a winning streak. We can’t speak for the level of her competition as she’s mostly fought locals, most of whom are “tomato cans.”
When Altuve has fought decent boxers, she’s usually lost. She lost clear-cut decisions against Arely Mucino and Leonela Yudica. Her last three opponents had a combined record of 5-33-1. That’s just how the business of boxing goes, especially in a division like women’s junior flyweight.
It’s tough to gauge just how effective Altuve will be, but it’s not an optimistic outlook. Should the online sports betting lines release, flee from betting Altuve even if it were the longest odds the sportsbook has opened this year.

Step Down For Bermudez
Credit goes to Bermudez, who will defend her belt against an unknown challenger. “The Little Princess” has nothing to gain here as she’s supposed to smash Altuve. Betting online may not even be available here due to the mismatch. The Argentine should be able to knock out Altuve just like she has against overmatched opponents.
The 26-year-old is at the peak of her powers and her last seven opponents were veterans, six of whom had winning records at the time of their bout. Many rankings still place Bermudez outside of the top three of the division. She should set her eyes on the other champions like Yesenia Gomez and Yesica Yolanda Bopp. Alternatively, she can move up to flyweight.
Bermudez won’t overlook her current opponent. But it’s clear she’s been a big fish swallowing all the minnows of the pond. Age 26 appears young in women’s boxing, but in these lighter weight classes, the speed and youth factor are huge. For Bermudez’s prime’s sake, she needs better competition.
