3 Buatsi vs Hutchinson Betting Preview

1. Joshua Buatsi: The Traditional Route

Regarding doing things according to the book, Joshua Buatsi follows the boxing tradition and does it very well. After claiming a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics, he relished in British and Commonwealth championship glory to claim his first title as a professional. Now, aged 31, he’s primed and experienced enough to take on the pro rankings at a world level.

Ahead of Buatsi’s first world title bout, albeit of an interim flavor, he’s undefeated, with 13 of his 18 wins coming by knockout. However, his most impressive performance against Dan Azeez last time out proved he can go twelve rounds and do so versus a legitimate foe.

2. Willy “The Hutch-Train” Hutchinson

Willy Hutchinson’s rise into the spotlight hasn’t been all that different from his weekend opponent. He was a decorated amateur at a world level and fought to become a British and Commonwealth champ. There is one difference, though: he’s tasted defeat. This stems from his knockout loss against Lennox Clark three years ago. To his credit, he’s looked flawless since said defeat and his winning efforts versus the likes of Craig Richards and Ezequiel Maderna assisted him into the WBO world rankings.

‘Braveheart,’ or ‘The Hutch-Train’ as some may call him, might be overlooked and undervalued on our boxing betting odds, but those who know… know! He’s a big deal in the United Kingdom right now, and although Buatsi will be his toughest test to date, the same can be said for his opponent.

3. Hutchinson says, ‘I’ll demolish Buatsi’

Eighteen pros have tried and failed, but Willy Hutchinson is confident that he’ll leave Wembley Arena with his hand raised this weekend:

Whatever they’re seeing, I must see a completely different thing. I’ll demolish this man – he’s an easier fight than my last opponent, that’s for sure. I believe I’ll knock him out,” Hutchinson told boxing news outlets.

Hutchinson and Buatsi: Between the Ropes

Hutchinson has a potent right hand, and Buatsi has been susceptible to such shots. Still, I envision body shots, pressure, and the long game being the difference-maker in favor of the undefeated fighter.

There’s no denying that Hutchinson has looked much better since moving to light heavyweight, but most of these fights have been against mediocre opposition. The Craig Richards fight was the outlier, but the counter-punching style he presented wasn’t something we’re used to. I’m unsure whether this can work for him in the long term, especially versus such a calculated opponent in Buatsi.

To overcome Buatsi –the clear favorite at BetUS Sportsbook– Hutchinson will need a style of old, one that is clinical and aggressive, as he’s displayed in recent early knockout wins over the likes of Karel Horejsek and Martin Houben. However, then we look at Lennox Clarke, who exposed a potentially weak chin of the Scotsman. Weight could’ve been a factor, but with an on-form Buatsi in front of him, he’ll be faced with a clinical, accurate, and very hard-hitting man.

Buatsi is an all-round, Olympic-level boxer who doesn’t tire, while Hutchinson isn’t an experienced 12-round fighter and has predominantly found success via sheer aggression. Yes, he showed us that he was an excellent boxer last time out, but Saturday’s caliber of opponent isn’t comparable, and it could be a wake-up call to humble his run.

Buatsi has patiently waited for his world title opportunity; now that it’s arrived, Hutchinson will need more than mind games to overcome the Brit. As a fellow Englishman, perhaps I’m biased for England in this battle with Scotland, but the variables stack in the Londoner’s favor.

Under the tutelage of Virgil Hunter, Buatsi has been an unstoppable force. Some have expressed concern about mental warfare favoring Hutchinson, but the Englishman’s team and gym won’t allow their fighter to compete with emotions.

  • Buatsi is undefeated in 18 professional boxing bouts
  • Hutchinson has won 18 of his 19 pro contests
  • Hutchinson’s lone career loss was by fifth-round knockout

How to Bet on Buatsi vs Hutchinson

There’s a true hatred between these men, as evidenced in the fight buildup. That said, whether emotions come into play or not, we bettors don’t allow the outside noise to affect our bankroll. When you break this fight down, Buatsi is better defensively. He has the better chin, guard, and experience as a 12-round fighter.

Neither fighter looks to go the distance, and we should anticipate heavy leather being thrown in the ring. With fight-ending blows expected from both sides, we have to side with the more defensively sound boxer, and that’s Buatsi. Hutchinson is no slouch, but low hands and the willingness to accept clean blows will cost him. For your boxing predictions, take Buatsi to keep the unbeaten streak going and achieve this by way of knockout.
