Undisputed WBA Lightweight Title at Stake

Davis Favored to Dust Romero

In what should be a fun fight for as long as it lasts, Gervonta “Tank” Davis is significantly favored to beat Rolando “Rolly” Romero to unify the WBA lightweight belts. The boxing odds also don’t have this going too far as both power punchers are going for the kill. This is Davis’s last fight with Mayweather Promotions and he could go out with a bang.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and boxing odds for Davis vs Romero. We’ve plenty of boxing predictions for you to consider.

Davis to Send a Message

Power is both a gift and a curse. For the aptly nicknamed Tank Davis, his ability to shut off his opponent’s lights with one punch has made him way too notorious. Davis owns a 93 percent knockout-to-win ratio, which is the best among ranked boxers with over 20 fights.

But due to his notoriety, Davis has had issues setting up big fights. While no boxer would admit it, many are “ducking” the diminutive pugilist as nobody wants “these hands.” Davis is quick and powerful but also precise, making him a pocket-sized cannon.

He moved up and knocked Mario Barrios out with no issues and, so far, only Isaac Cruz and German Meraz have survived Davis. When betting online on Davis, it is best to find a prop on him to win by a knockout or to bet on the under on the totals.

Romero to Make Hands Do the Talking

We’ll hand it to Rolly Romero: He knows how to sell a fight. With his hilarious quotes and fur coats, Romero has learned a lot from Floyd Mayweather Jr. and now finds himself in the biggest fight of his career. But Romero isn’t just all talk as his 85.7 percent knockout ratio will also attest.

Like Davis, Romero is also a hard-hitter and goes into every fight looking to take his opponents out. There is some concern about Romero’s past opponents, as he has not fought anyone close to Davis’s level. But Romero last beat Anthony Yigit, a solid southpaw, so he has some experience going against Davis.

The key for Romero would be to pick his shots and be more defensive. He is an offensive boxer, so it may be a moot point, but engaging Davis where he is at his best — in a firefight — is asking to be taken out.

Davis vs Romero Head-to-Head

Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero is the classic matchup between a southpaw and an orthodox boxer. Of course, both are unbeaten against whichever style of boxer though it’s worth noting that the last six boxers Davis has faced were orthodox while Romero just beat a southpaw.

Davis vs Romero Betting Lines

Davis vs Romero Prediction

Rolly Romero has a significant “puncher’s chance” here since he throws plenty of heat. But he is barking up the wrong tree here. Gervonta Davis does what Romero does, but to a higher degree. Davis is more polished and has fought higher-level opposition. His nickname of “Tank” also works both ways as Davis can eat a shot and not be fazed.

Romero may just hit Davis clean a few good times. Ultimately, though, Davis’ veteran experience should help him outlast the young upstart. Betting Davis at his price is a solid play. But for a better return, throw him in a parlay or bet him to win by a knockout at -400 on the sportsbook.

Pick: Gervonta Davis -1000
