IBF Interim Welterweight Title
Boxing odds have Jaron Ennis predicted to win comfortably against Roiman Villa for the IBF Interim welterweight title on Saturday.
The sportsbook has Villa at +650, so the 21-1 fighter could do well just surviving the full 12 rounds.
Ennis Rising the Ranks
Boxing betting lines have Ennis at short odds for a reason. He’s unbeaten at 30-0 following wins over the likes of Custio Clayton and Karen Chukhadzhian.
His most recent win only came via a decision, but he owns 27 wins by knockout, so he’s not lacking in the power department.
Bettors will have to muster some courage to take the -1200 line with sport betting markets on the confident 26-year-old boxer from Philadelphia.
“This next fight means a lot. I can’t wait to make a big statement. We’ll see on fight night, but I know my opponent. All he does is come forward; not moving his head; swinging big shots,” Ennis said.
He looks to have a bright future in the division, and he’s currently ranked third. He’ll likely get a title shot if he beats Villa, which looks highly likely.
We expect him to get off to a fast start, which could see boxing live betting odds shift Ennis to around -3000, so the -1200 doesn’t look as short.
Villa Takes Challenge
Boxing odds aren’t giving Villa too much chance of scoring an upset win for the interim title, but he’s not a bad boxer.
He’s not a journeyman going through the motions. He’s a 30-year-old Colombian, who defeated a 24-0 fighter earlier this year, which holds him in good stead.
It came by majority decision, but 24 of his 26 wins have come by knockout, so Ennis needs to be careful of his right hook.
Many of his earlier fights came against lower-level opposition, but we have seen much worse +650 underdogs.
“This is the fight I wanted,” Villa said. “My promoter [Sampson Lewkowicz] gave us the option to have a tune-up fight but I did not want any other fighter. To be the best, you have to fight the best fighter and I am ready to fight anyone.”
