Legendary Middleweight has Eyes on Title Fight

Boxing Stalwarts Fight in Brooklyn

Experience is oozing over the fight between Danny Garcia and Jose Benavidez Jr, who have been in the sport for many years.

Boxing odds have Garcia as the dominant -700 favorite to beat Benavidez Jr., who has only one loss on his record.

Danny Garcia

We think the fight could be closer than bookmakers predict and the crowd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., should appreciate the class of these fighters.

Garcia Looking to Bounce Back

Garcia hasn’t fought since losing to Errol Spence Jr. at AT&T Stadium in 2020, but he’s not the first nor the last to lose to Spence.

It’s never easy coming off a loss in an IBF and WBC world title fight, but Garcia should be proud of his efforts to lose in a closely fought contest.

He now looks to Benavidez, who is past his best despite having only one loss and a draw on his record. Garcia still has potential to fight for a world title so Benavidez would have to produce a huge knockout performance to get that opportunity.

There is a reason why Garcia is the -700 favorite with the sportsbook. He acknowledged he needed the rest following his latest loss.

“That break was very important for me. I’ve been boxing for over 20 years, and I needed the rest. I’m going to go in there and fight my fight. I’m going to fight a Danny Garcia fight,” Garcia told Newsweek.com.

“I’m going to make adjustments, use the jab, let my hands go and whatever happens, happens. I feel great. I feel strong. I’m happy. I feel good. My defense is good, my offense is good, I’m working my jab, and I feel better.”

Garcia is tough to beat and he’s -140 to win by decision and +160 to end the fight early.

Benavidez Jr. to Prove Worth

The large majority of Benavidez’s wins came against inferior opponents and he hasn’t beaten anyone of note.

His first big test came against Terence Crawford and it was a one-sided decision loss. The judges had their scorecards at 107-102, 108-101, 99-110 for Crawford, so it wasn’t close.

The American then faced Francisco Torres and we expected him to win, but the majority draw was another setback for Benavidez.

“A win over Danny Garcia is a big step for me. The winner of this fight is going to go back up in the rankings. We’ve both lost before and I think that’s made us stronger fighters. We’ve learned from our mistakes. We’re going to be throwing bombs all night long. Stay tuned, because this is going to be the fight of the year, I guarantee that,” Benavidez Jr. said.

Boxing betting odds markets aren’t giving him much of a chance as the +450 underdog. He is always a puncher’s chance, but he’ll need to provide his best to have any chance of beating Garcia on points.

Garcia vs Benavidez Prediction

We’re picking Garcia to score an easy points victory and he might only lose a few rounds in the 12-round fight.

He’s far too classy for Benavidez so instead of taking Garcia at -700, there is much better value in the -140 to win by decision,

We can’t see either fighter scoring a win by knockout, so take the safe option and back the favorite to have his hand raised at the end of the scheduled 12 rounds.
