Hitchins vs. Kambosos Jr Skillset Comparison

Living Of Old Hype

When Kambosos Jr. took a split decision win to defeat Teofimo Lopez in 2021, the boxing community came to a standstill. Nobody could believe what was happening in boxing news, but that was many moons ago, and the times have certainly changed.

Back-to-back defeats against Devin Haney and a knockout loss to Vasyl Lomachenko have been the elite opposition results for Kambosos Jr. since then, and now, with a move up in weight class, should we expect anything different?

It’s no secret that Kambosos is a highly aggressive, high-output boxer. He brazenly attempted to match the volume of Lomachenko, if you remember correctly, and due to his lack of precision, we know how that worked out for him. But therein lies the problem… ‘precision.’ While Kambosos can crack, and he does love to push the pace, he severely lacks technical ability, and with 10 to 20% accuracy, we just know he’s faltering in the accuracy department more than he needs to at the highest level.

This Could Resemble a Haney Trilogy

Hitchins is relatively new to the elite leagues, and many boxing expert picks expected him to falter versus Liam Paro for the title he now holds. In proving the masses wrong, easy fights will be few and far between, but if there’s an opponent whose skills can triumph, Kambosos Jr. does seem to fit the bill.

Much like Haney, Hitchins is a methodical boxer who relies heavily on footwork and accuracy. He doesn’t have the aggression of Kambosos, nor the power, but he’ll happily stay at range, switch stances when required, and box the opposition from the outside to a decisive win on the scorecards.

No, he isn’t the most entertaining fighter, but he knows the sweet science, and just as Haney managed to in consecutive fights, Hitchins should be able to score rounds as the more versatile and precise puncher.

  • Hitchins is undefeated (19-0)
  • Hitchins holds a 6-inch reach advantage over Kambosos
  • Kambosos has lost 3 of his previous 5 bouts

Hitchins vs. Kambosos Jr. Best Bet: Hitchins By Decision

I think I speak for many boxing purists when I say it’d be incredible to watch Kambosos Jr. upset the landscape of championship boxing again. However, and no matter how tempting those +700 boxing lines may be, Hitchins has multiple tools to tame the dangerous dog, and that’s precisely what he’ll do.

Whether he wants to stay on his back foot, behind his six inches of reach and probe the jab, or be the more assertive fighter and pressure the counter-boxing style of Kambosos, I believe he has the option to succeed either way. As I’m siding with the former game plan of the two, Hitchins to win by decision feels like the play.

The current moneyline odds are horrendous, but Kambosos’ durability is solid (Lomachenko is something else), so the decision prop is a beautiful way to boost our odds.

Take Hitchins Winning by Decision (-200)
