Odds Strongly Favor Ioka
WBO super flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka is putting more than his title on the line: He’s also looking to get over the only man to beat him in the last eight years: Donnie Nietes. Since losing to Nietes, Ioka has torn through the division and has won five straight. Nietes, on the other hand, is 40 years old and has fought just twice since. The boxing lines now heavily favor Ioka.
Ioka: Dominant Champion
Rematches can look drastically different than the first fight. In this case, Ioka has taken his loss against Nietes as a learning lesson and transformed himself into a dominant champion. He made good on his promise to “derail” Kosei Tanaka by knocking him out.
As far as being a boxer, Ioka blends technique with power. He shares similarities with Nietes in that both can be cerebral. They methodically break down their opponent and wear them out over 12 rounds. The main difference is that Ioka is younger and more active.
Ioka will need to quickly dictate the fight against Nietes. He now has more data against his opponent. It could be akin to his rematch against Juan Carlos Reveco, where he finished him in the 11th round. At such steep online sports betting odds, Ioka should have solved Nietes.
Nietes Similar to Another 40-Year-Old Legend
No, we’re not talking about Manny Pacquiao, who is Nietes’ compatriot. We’re referring to Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has continued to look good even at his age. The similarities don’t end at both being in their 40s. Nietes’ slick and defensive approach is not unlike Mayweather’s.
Maybe the Filipino is not quite as elusive or tricky as Mayweather. But he gives his moniker “Ahas” (Tagalog for “snake”) plenty of credibility as he can be hard to get a bead on. It’s this style that has helped Nietes become just the third Asian boxer to win world titles in four weight divisions.
‘I would not be surprised if Donnie, once he’s world champion again, says: ‘Hey, I might as well add a few more titles.’

If Nietes wants it, big things could be in store for him. The boxing promoters are already targeting unification bouts and the like. Nietes will have to outmaneuver Ioka once again. He’s only won one fight since defeating him, however.
Ioka vs Nietes 2 Head-to-Head
The champ, Ioka, is a bit bigger than Nietes. He has a one-inch reach advantage and is two inches taller. This didn’t help him in the initial bout, although most prognosticators scored the fight for him.

Ioka vs Nietes 2 Prediction
At +350, we won’t fault anyone for betting online on the Nietes. The Filipino is adept and familiar with Ioka, so he could just frustrate him enough to earn another razor-thin decision. However, he has not boxed a lot while Ioka has kept himself busy. Ioka is also younger, stronger and quicker. That may just give him the edge.
Expect Ioka to be more aggressive in this bout as he looks to avoid being on the wrong side of another controversial decision. Ioka to win by decision is at -140 on the online betting site and this is a nice prop to take.
