Road to Redemption Continues For Dogboe

Lopez Seeking Upset in Las Vegas

The featherweights battle in Las Vegas as Isaac Dogboe continues his comeback against the dangerous Adam Lopez.

Dogboe lost consecutive fights to Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO bantamweight title, but he rebounded with a TKO win over Chris Avalis.

Lopez bounced back from his loss to Oscar Valdez with two straight wins, so he’s capable of producing a minor upset on Saturday.

The online betting markets have Dogboe as the favorite, but it’s expected to be a closely contested fight.

It’s a feature fight on the Inoue vs Dasmarinas card, which should excite boxing fans all around the world.

Lopez Has Upset Credentials

The two fighters Lopez has lost to are undefeated. His loss to Valdez was a roadblock in the way of his title ambitions, but he’s dangerous at his best.

He’s a California native who is always worth watching. His last two wins came by majority decision, but he’s rarely defensive and typically comes out guns blazing.

“I’ve been in some tough fights, and I haven’t really turned down any type of fight,” Lopez told Boxing Scene. “I feel like I’m still building my name and showing people what I’m really about, but I do put on exciting fights and I go to war. It’s something that’s in me that I can’t really help, to be honest. I’m still trying to balance it out – going to war and fighting smart. I’m trying to get a good balance to it, but it’s hard to do.

“I never really thought about it like that, but I feel like there’s gonna come a time when there’s gonna be some type of rival.

“It might be Dogboe, who knows? It’s the even matches and back-and-forth fights that are entertaining that the fans want to see and that they want to pay for, and I feel like that’s what builds a great rivalry.”

Saturday’s fight will determine whether it’s a rivalry or not. Lopez will need to fight smart against a boxer who has a better record and has fought better opponents.

He is getting respect in boxing betting markets. The odds aren’t completely in favor of a Dogboe loss, so he could be worth entertaining.

Dogboe Back in Contention

Losing consecutive fights can be boxing suicide, but we’re prepared to give Dogboe a pass.

The 26-year-old Brit lost his bantamweight title to Emanuel Navarrete before losing the rematch by TKO. They were tough losses to take, but they came against a high-quality opponent and Lopez is a level down.

Dogboe rebounded with a comfortable TKO win over Avalos, which was expected against a seven-loss fighter. However, it acted as a good preparation fight for Lopez, who can land power punches.

His improvement since his debut win in 2013 has been incredible and his TKO win in Auckland for the vacant WBO bantamweight belt was his entry onto the world stage.

He is now having his seventh consecutive fight stateside, which is important. He is used to life in the United State and currently resides in Tampa, Fla., so the 5-foot-4 fighter deserves to be confident.

“I am enjoying the company of my coaches and teammates. Surrendering all to the Lord whilst I do my best to prepare physically and mentally; knowing that there are endless possibilities of greatness waiting for me. And having the notion that I’m going to have fun, entertain and most importantly win on June 19th,” he said.

A notable win came against previously unbeaten Jessie Magdaleno, who was 25-0. The knockout was a statement win and it showed the boxing world how dangerous Dogboe can be.

Dogboe vs Lopez Pick

We give Lopez plenty of credit for accepting the challenge and he’s a quality fighter, but we give the nod to Dogboe.

The Ghana native is extremely confident of a victory and he has seemingly overcome the losses. He enters this fight as the favorite, but he’s not getting too much respect from bookmakers.

We make Dogboe the clear favorite and although -220 is a short quote, he could have easily been at a much shorter quote.
