WBO World Bantamweight Belt at Stake
Aussie Narrowly Favored
Boxing odds have a close fight predicted between Jason Moloney and Vincent Astrolabio for the WBO World Bantamweight title.
Australian Moloney is the -155 favorite to win the vacant title, but Astrolabio is a quality fighter.
The sportsbook has Astrolabio at +125, so it could go either way.
Moloney Could Justify Favorite Status
Boxing betting lines expect a good showing from Moloney, who has been in excellent form throughout his career.
Having a record of 25-2, Moloney is boxing well, and his recent loss to Naoya Inoue for the IBF and WBA titles in Las Vegas is worth noting.
Despite being knocked out in the seventh round, Moloney’s performance was commendable. However, there’s been talk about Astrolabio being the next Manny Pacquiao, which Moloney found amusing.
“There will only ever be one Manny Pacquiao,” Moloney said. “And I’m not getting into the ring with him.
“Of course, Astrolabio will have drawn inspiration from Manny. And no doubt he’s also trying to follow in his footsteps. But again, there’s only one Pacquiao.”
Moloney bounced back with four consecutive wins, including a unanimous decision against Joshua Greer Jr and a knockout victory against Aston Palicte in Melbourne.
Although Palicte was considered a tougher opponent, Moloney sent him packing in the third round.
The online gambling odds for Moloney look about right, and Australian boxing is currently going great guns.
It Could Be Destiny
Astrolabio might be the underdog with boxing odds, but there’s nothing wrong with his record.
He could pull off an upset, much like he did against Guillermo Rigondeaux. Rigondeaux was considered one of the best in the bantamweight division with a record of 20-2, and Astrolabio wasn’t expected to pose much of a challenge.
However, the Filipino managed to win by a narrow margin, proving himself as a worthy competitor. He followed this up with a knockout victory over Nikolai Potapov in Las Vegas, establishing himself as a legitimate threat to Moloney in Stockton, Calif.
Although he’s currently listed as the underdog with sport betting odds of +125, this could be seen as a value price.
Astrolabio has a bright future ahead, and his victories over Rigondeaux demonstrate his potential for a successful career.
“Since I started boxing, my dream has been to fight for a world title, and dreams come true with hard work,” Astrolabio said. “I have thought about this moment over and over again, and I will not be denied the world title.
“I want to thank my promoter Manny Pacquiao and Sean Gibbons for giving me this WBO bantamweight world title shot.”
If the fight were taking place in the Philippines, Astrolabio would be the -150 favorite, but since it’s on neutral ground, bookmakers have Moloney as the favored winner.
If he gets off to a fast start, Boxing live betting markets could make Astrolabio the favorite.
