Money for Unbeaten Contender
There has been plenty of money come for Zach Parker, who is 22-0, with boxing betting markets.
However, John Ryder has been there and done that, so there’s every chance the underdog could cause a slight upset at +200.
Parker Rising in Class
Parker hasn’t faced someone with the class of Ryder before, so there are a lot of unknowns with the -250 sportsbook favorite.
Parker has a strong resume with 16 knockout victories, but this is his first fight at the five-star level, so we’re unsure how he’ll cope with the pressure.
The British boxer, who defeated Marcus Morrison last year, has been given the opportunity to claim the interim title and he’s the bigger fighter, which has its advantages.
“It is going to be a good fight. At least he’s got the b—s to come and fight me, unlike Andrade. He always brings it, so if we both do that and meet in the middle, it will be one for the fans,” Parker told Boxing Scene.
“It should be a good fight, but I reckon I will get a stoppage over Ryder. I think he is just a bit too small for super middleweight. He has boxed some but they have taken him lightly, thinking they are gonna beat him easily.”
Ryder Eyes Bigger Fights
Ryder has faced much harder opponents than Ryder, so we wouldn’t overlook his boxing odds.
Despite having five losses on his record, the 34-year-old scored a split-decision win against Daniel Jacobs in February, and he believes with a win against Parker, a shot against Canelo will be offered.
“I think it makes perfect sense, really,” Ryder explained. “The winner will be in line for the WBO title, obviously it’s for the interim, and I know [David] Benavidez and [Caleb] Plant are fighting a final eliminator and he [Canelo]’s got options, but I’ve spent two years chasing him [Canelo] around the world, trying to be a backup fighter [if someone drops out], and if I beat Zach Parker next week, I deserve my shot at Canelo and I think I’ve paid my dues.”
First things first, Ryder needs to take care of business on Saturday for the interim WBO 168-pound crown. He hasn’t been well-backed to win, but he’s classy at his best and he could wipe the unbeaten record away from Parker.
