Masanori Rikiishi vs Eduardo Nunez headlines boxing action on Wednesday, where boxing betting lines have Nunez at -230 to win the IBF super featherweight title.

Top 2 Picks for Rikiishi vs Nunez on May 28

1. Masanori Rikiishi (+190)

I’m surprised by the lack of betting support for Rikiishi, who is ranked top of the division. The 16-1 fighter tops all other fights in the featherweight division, including Nunez, who is ranked 15th.

Nunez is not even the top-ranked Mexican, so although it’s concerning to see him favored at -230, my bets on boxing fights are all about finding value, and there is plenty of value with the home favorite.

Rikiishi comes off a knockout over a much easier fighter, but his TKO win over Michael Magnesi is a much better form guide. It was a close fight before he landed the telling blows, and that’s what Nunez must fear.

Nunez is 27-1 so his record is impressive, but he hasn’t had many big fights, and fighting in Japan against a Japanese fighter is tough. This is where he could come unstuck. He has yet to have a three-star fight, and he has fought outside of Mexico just once.

I believe the odds should be the other way around, so if you look to bet on boxing online, lock in Rikiishi at +190. That’s an excellent price as I was expecting Rikiishi to be around -110.

2. Over 9.5 Rounds (-125)

These fighters love a knockout win, but as we often see in title fights, especially when it’s vacant, they tend to fight with more caution.

My boxing picks today have over 9.5 rounds at -125, which is a good line and odds. I see this fight going the distance, and although Nunez has finished 27 of his 28 opponents, he hasn’t faced anyone close to being on Rikiishi’s level.

That’s influencing betting markets for this fight, and Japanese fighters are smart. They tend to stay out of range and pick their spots, and with Rikiishi having bigger fights on his record, he has been in this position before.

It should ultimately see them go deep in the fight, so the over 9.5 line is generous. I expect to see boxing news on Wednesday morning of Rikiishi winning with the judge’s scorecards.
