Spence to Take Ugas to School

Errol Spence Jr. Is Solid Despite Close Calls

In spite of a detached retina and several car crashes, Errol Spence Jr. returns as the unbeaten prodigy in the welterweight division. The boxing odds have him as a decided favorite against fellow champion Yordenis Ugas, who upset the great Manny Pacquiao last summer. He may not be the same fighter he once was, but Spence has plenty left in the tank.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and Boxing odds for Spence Jr. vs Ugas. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.

Business As Usual For Errol Spence Jr.

Many boxing fans tend to forget about the greatness of Errol Spence Jr. News about him has mainly been about what happens outside of the ring. But once that bell rings, few boxers can do it as well as the 32-year-old native of Long Island.

Spence has rarely been in a real “fight” in the boxing ring. His slick southpaw style makes him difficult to box against and it would take a highly aggressive and durable boxer to take the fight to him. That’s what Shawn Porter tried but ultimately failed to do.

Many fans would rag on Spence for seemingly having lost his killer instinct. He finished all but three of his first 24 opponents, however, since the Mikey Garcia fight in 2019, Spence has cruised and has been content to win fights on the scorecards.

This may be a knock on him entertainment-wise, but for boxing betting odds purposes, Spence is the type of boxer you’d love to put money on.

Yordenis Ugas Is As Tough As They Come

Like plenty of the Cuban boxers before him, Yordenis Ugas is one tough nut to crack. The Olympic bronze medalist is 35-years-old and has lost four times in his professional career.

Ugas is big and burly with a chin made of iron. Additionally, his defensive style makes it difficult for even the best boxers to look good against him. If there is a knock on Ugas, it’s his lack of aggression. This is what will usually cost him fights, just as it did against Porter

It was a fight Ugas had won in the eyes of many but Porter’s more aggressive approach convinced the judges. It would be difficult to tell Ugas to move forward more and to be more assertive as his style is what has led to his success. If he is the cleaner boxer, he may sway the judges this time.

Spence Jr. vs Ugas Head-to-Head

This will be the first time Errol Spence Jr. and Yordenis Ugas box each other. Both boxers are 5’9” though Spence will have a three-inch reach advantage. Spence will also fight from southpaw against Ugas’s orthodox style. While Spence is the younger boxer by nearly four years, Ugas has been more active.

Spence Jr. vs Ugas Prediction

Errol Spence Jr. has a sizable advantage in this fight. He will be the faster of the two boxers so he will likely be beating Yordenis Ugas to the punch. Spence should be able to go in and out against Ugas and pick up a clean decision here.

To beat Spence, Ugas will have to come out of his shell a bit more, but again, that is tall task as Spence will be quicker and he should be able to evade most of his punches. Boxing betting on Spence to beat Ugas by decision at -135. Additionally, you can bet on this fight to go to decision at -225.
