Betting Markets Favor Champ
There has been overwhelming support for WBC and WBO junior lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who is the -3000 favorite to beat Robson Conceicao with boxing betting markets.
The undefeated 18-0 champion is expected to breeze past his 17-1 opponent, who hasn’t done much wrong in his career.
Stevenson Wearing Them Down
It’s not typical to see an American fighter with 18 wins and only nine knockouts. However, for what he lacks in power, Stevenson makes up for with tenacity.
The 25-year-old doesn’t know when to stop punching and he easily outscores his opponents, like he did against Oscar Valdez in April.
He scored a convincing unanimous decision victory against the former 30-0 fighter, which stands out as the best betting online guide for this fight.
Stevenson is all class and he’s likely using this fight as a warm-up for bigger bouts early next year.
“He’s a solid fighter, you can’t take nothing away from him,” Stevenson told The Ring. “You know he’s going to bring his best-come fight night. I’m ready to put on a show. I think his strength is he’s an Olympic gold medalist; he’s got a solid boxing IQ; he’s not just rushing in there and being dumb – I’ll give him that. I think his weakness is he has more of an amateur style, where he’s a front-runner. I think he starts off fast, but as the fight goes on, he slows down, and then I’ll take over.”
“I don’t think he can do anything to stop me. I think it’s a great fight, but I’m on a whole different level.”
Betting on Stevenson at -3000 is a tough way to make a profit, but he’s -180 to win by decision and that could be good shopping.
Conceicao Facing Biggest Test
Being an Olympic gold medalist comes with pressure in the professional ranks, but Conceicao has handled it well.
The Brazilian has only one loss on his record, which came to Valdez before Valdez was beaten by Stevenson. It was a close enough fight to give Conceicao some credit, but it doesn’t bode well.
He followed it up with a decision win against Xavier Martinez, which could give the +1000 boxing odds underdog some confidence.
Most of his form prior to the Valdez loss came against inferior opponents, which is our biggest worry. He has been found out against the best fighters and Stevenson is the best in the business.
He’s +1000 for a reason, and although those odds are tough to come by in a high-profile boxing fight, it would take a brave bettor to climb onboard.
