Yoenis Tellez is ready to make another statement. The fast-rising Cuban star is only into his 10th professional fight but is already on the cusp of being a champion (albeit interim). He is heavily favored by the boxing betting odds to beat former champion Julian “J Rock” Williams. Being a 1/16 favorite against one like Williams is high praise and one which he should validate.

Best Prop and Round Betting Picks for Tellez vs Williams

1. Tellez (-450) Finishes J Rock

It will be tough to tout backing a relatively green boxer against a former champion, especially when he’s at a whopping -1600 on the moneyline. So instead, the best boxing bet is a knockout for Tellez starting at -450. He has the precision and power to hurt someone like Williams.

Julian Williams is a former world champion with a lot of experience, and I respect what he’s done in the sport,” Tellez told Fight Mag. “But on March 1, I’m going to come with everything I’ve got. I have a style that is exciting, and I’m confident in my ability to execute our game plan. This is a huge opportunity for me, and I’m ready to show the world what I’m capable of.

The former IBF and IBO super welterweight champion can’t be underwritten. However, he’s also gotten cracked repeatedly. Since upsetting Jarrett Hurd to win the belts, Williams has won just two of his next five bouts, per boxing betting trends. He was finished in two of his three losses, including his last attempt at world title against Carlos Adames.

The only edge Williams has over Tellez is experience. He’s fought tougher competition, including Jermall Charlo and Jeison Rosario. He will be Tellez’s toughest opponent to date so it speaks volumes that Tellez is granted a 94.1% implied chance of winning.

Tellez may still be young but he’s already starched veterans like Johan Gonzalez and Sergio Garcia, the latter of whom he handed his first career stoppage defeat. The 24-year-old is ready for the spotlight and will be a champion. Bet online for him to hurt and finish Williams.

Bet on Yoenis Tellez to Win by KO (-450)

2. Tellez Wins in Early Rounds

We’ll give credit to Williams. He hung in there against Adames, who gave Hamzah Sheeraz a run for his money in his backyard, and the stoppage was controversial. But Williams still put himself in a position to get hurt. And Tellez is a more prolific puncher than Adames. Our boxing pick is on Tellez to finish Williams within the first six rounds.

We have a small sample size but he’s surprised his opponents with his power. Tellez does not load up or try to one-punch knock out his opponents. He’s measured but is deadly accurate, which is more important for scoring KOs than power.

Additionally, Williams has a frail chin given all the beatings he’s taken. He doesn’t have a good poker face, either. Once he feels Tellez’s power, the Cuban will know he has him at a vulnerable spot. We see Tellez finishing Williams with a counter when the underdog gets a little too greedy in his exchanges.

There is good value is betting the fight to end in each of the first six rounds. If you’re feeling bolder in your boxing predictions, you can bet Tellez to win in Rounds 6 at +700. Or, go for an equally big bang for your buck with a KO in Round 4 (+800) or Round 5 (+750).

Bet on Yoenis Tellez KO in Round 6 (+700)
