The boxing schedule has been relatively quiet since we cashed our ticket from the Billam-Smith vs. Zurdo bout. Still, by the grace of God, world title action returns this weekend when former IBF titlist Sunny Edwards goes to war with a fellow Englishman in Galal Yafai for the interim WBC flyweight strap.
Edwards, no stranger to high-profile bouts, will relish beingunder the spotlight this weekend. However, Yafai, a fresh face on the flyweight championship scene, looks to maintain an undefeated record, although just two years of professional experience might be too much, too soon!

Yafai vs Edwards Betting Preview
Fighting for Their Family Name
Most boxing betting fans, particularly US residents unfamiliar with the backstory building Sunny Edwards versus Galal Yafai into a huge grudge bout, know that Saturday’s interim title bout has much more thangold on the line.
When Edwards and Yafai step into the BP Pulse Live arena this weekend, a family rivalry will be reignited, one dating back to their amateur days long before their professional paths began to take shape.
Repping London, former world champ Edwards and Birmingham representative Yafai might have believed their feud ended nine years ago on the amateur scene, but as we close out 2024, the two tacticians meet again, and the victor should anticipate a massive 2025.
Two of Britain’s elite boxing families will go toe-to-toe again, as the brother of Sunny, Charlie, will be in his corner as Gamal and Kal will be backing their bro, Galal. However, those siblings won’t be lacing up the gloves, as Galal and Sunny’ll settle the feud between these boxing-rich families.
Blood, guts, thunder… skills.

A Grudge Bout Beyond the Gold
Grudge bouts like this aren’t usually made up of a long-standing history. However, with two fighters who achieved much success during their respective careers, you can’t help but believe neither will be fulfilled until they’ve triumphed overthe other.
Edwards will look at his foe’s Olympic gold medal and know he could achieve the same, especially after taking the dub during their amateur clash. Similarly, following his Olympic achievements, Yafai had to look on as Edwards sat as a flyweight world champion, knowing he could reach the same heights.
Watching Edwards lose the IBF gold to now unified champ Jesse Rodriguez has aged well, and the Londoner’s bounce back against Adrian Curiel this past summer was nothing more than technicality. Yafai doesn’t hold the same elite experience in the pro scene, but with a significantly deeper amateur career and Olympic achievements, don’t look beyond his capability of getting one back, and at the very least, we can expect fireworks when these two collide!
Forget about everything else, Edwards vs. Yafai will be FIREWORKS 🎆#EdwardsYafai | Nov 30 | Live on DAZN pic.twitter.com/mT2y8Ipldg

Yafai vs Edwards: Skillset Breakdown
Edwards sits at the top of commendable losses. His only career defeat came against the unbeaten multi-division titleholder Jesse Rodriguez, and it holds the least shame regarding defeat one could possibly have. More importantly, outside of this clash, he’s looked almost untouchable during his pro tenure. He’ll enter this weekend’s interim title bout as the significantly more seasoned fighter and one who’s tasted and defeated opponents at a championship level.

Based on Yafai’s 8-0 pro record thus far, I don’t believe we’ve witnessed a championship-level fighter. Sure, he might have proven his skills yet, but we have to base his ceiling on what we’ve seen. Despite his numerous KO/TKO stoppages, he hasn’t looked as sharp, calculating, or defensively sound as a world champion-level boxer does.
What’s most concerning about Yafai is his lack of movement sometimes. Defensively, he’s more willing to take a punch than to avoid it, and although he doesn’t throw haymakers and hope for the best, his cardio does seemingly dwindle in later rounds. This is a huge red flag as he prepares for a 12-round contest with a former champion.

Yafai vs Edwards Best Bet: Go With Edwards -140
When it comes to volume punching, I’ll put some respect on Yafai’s name, but I don’t anticipate him having the cardio or defensive mindset to outclass Edwards in more rounds than not. There’s a reason why Yafai was still competing in the amateurs while Edwards was racking up professional experience, and that’s because he’s the more talented, technical, and precise puncher of the two. For my boxing prediction today, I’ll go with Edwards, who should cruise to a unanimous decision win over a familiar foe.
Bet This Pick: Sunny Edwards ML (-140)
