This Saturday’s WBC flyweight title fight between Galal Yafai and Francisco “Chihuahua” Rodriguez Jr. will be a barnburner and potentially the best of the year. 1. Rodriguez Has Decent Value as an Underdog

At +275 via boxing’s Vegas odds, Francisco Rodriguez Jr. is a nice choice. The “Chihuahua” earned his moniker thanks to his relentless style. But unlike Chihuahuas, Rodriguez has a bit more power in his attacks, as seen with his 69.2% knockout rate. For his small stature, this is impressive. And this is how he pulls it off.

We still rate Yafai as the better boxer. However, he’s only been boxing professionally since 2022. Rodriguez had already boxed in three divisions with a title reign in one. Yafai broke out by making shocking boxing news in the demolition of Sunny Edwards, who promptly retired after. But this was already a broken-down fighter.

Rodriguez is more durable, as we’ve seen him push Kazuto Ioka to his limit. While Ioka won that decision, many argue that Rodriguez did enough to earn an upset. The underdog also went toe-to-toe with Junto Nakatani. These are two of Japan’s most prolific champions, and in Nakatani’s case, one of the best boxers to bet on.

What’s against Rodriguez is the location. Yafai will get the benefit of the doubt, especially in a close fight. Rodriguez will have to dominate the fight or score several knockdowns. Our boxing prediction is that he does something close to the latter as he pulls off a stunner in England.

2. Bet Rodriguez to Win By KO (+450)

If you want more juice on your upset pick, take the knockout prop for Rodriguez. This is the likeliest result in which the underdog wins. We’ve seen Mexican boxers like Mauricio Lara and Luis Alberto Lopez win via KOs. Mexicans tend to have success against U.K. pugilists. Of course, the flip side is for Yafai to win via decision at -125. If you’re on Yafai’s side, taking Rodriguez to win by KO is not a bad hedge.
