How to Make it Pay

Among the savviest of online gamblers, it’s common knowledge that there are three games that have the potential to offer a consistent profit: poker, blackjack, and video poker. Of course, profiting in any of these three games depends on a large number of variables. Winning big in poker will rely heavily on a player’s ability to read their opponents, and coming out ahead in blackjack is all about working the right table. In video poker, there are four different variables that can affect your profit margin. Here they are in order of importance.

Paytables

Let’s face it, if you’re playing a game that has a fixed house edge then there’s nothing you can do to make that game profitable. The same is true of online video poker. How do you know what the house edge is for each game? It’s all in the paytable. A one-credit difference in the payout for any common combination can also be the difference between a machine with a 100%+ payout percentage or a 99% or less payout percentage. Do your homework, learn the games that pay the best, and play only those paytables.

Video Poker Strategy

Even a video poker machine with the potential to pay out over 100% can be wasted on a player that’s not using the right strategy. When you’re looking at payout percentages for various games and paytables, bear in mind that those percentages are only achievable with a perfect strategy. You’d probably lose more money than you could win back trying to devise such a strategy on your own, but thankfully other pros have already done that work for you. Video poker cheat sheets are available for virtually every variation, just be sure to match the correct chart to its corresponding game.

Hand Speed

If you’re playing a video poker game where your advantage is only a fraction of a percent, even though you’re going to come out ahead it’s going to take a lot of hands to make playing worthwhile. Thankfully, the simplicity of the game combined with the automation features offered by online video poker makes it easy to complete a hundred or more hands an hour for a pretty appealing hourly wage.

Comps

As casinos wise up, it’s becoming harder and harder for video poker players to find games that offer a positive expectation scenario. That said, the right loyalty points program can help players fill the gap when the only games they can find are slightly below 100% payout.

Wild Video Poker Variations

There has always been a large number of video poker variations, but for a large part of the game’s history, many of these games were one-off creations for the live casinos that used them. The introduction of online video poker has finally brought all of these variants together in one place. Whereas live casinos have limited space and thus must have a limited video poker game selection, online casinos can host a virtually unlimited number of video poker games. Below are just a few of the most popular wild-style video poker games.

Deuces Wild

Deuces Wild is the original wild card video poker game. As the name suggests, all four deuces act as wilds.

Joker Wild

The Joker Wild video poker games feature just one wild card in the form of the classic joker.

Deuces and Joker Wild

Deuces and Joker Wild games are much more common online. They add the four wild cards in Deuces Wild with the single wild from Joker Wild for a total of five wilds.

Double Bonus Deuces Wild

Double Bonus Deuces Wild video poker online combines the rules of Double Bonus (primarily the staggering pay systems for specific four of a kind) with the wilds inherent in classic Deuces Wild games.

Obviously, wilds make it easier to hit the largest and most elusive hand combinations, but the catch is that the minimum qualifying hand is also much higher (generally a three of a kind).

Aces and Eights Video Poker

Get a 4-of-a-Kind Bonus if you Score with Aces and Eights! Play the classic Video Poker game Aces and Eights in the online casino!

Aces and Eights- Basics

The classic video poker game Aces and Eights is based on five-card draw poker. The game sets up almost exactly like five-card draw poker but while in draw poker, the most cards that a player can exchange is three, in Aces and Eights, after making a wager, the player can decide to exchange all five cards.

In Aces and Eights, players get a higher payout for scoring a 4 of a kind with Aces or Eights! They also get a higher payout for scoring a 4 of a kind with Sevens!

Aces and Eights – How to Play

The player first must decide to bet one of the units or the max units. In the online casino, the minimum credit bet is 25 cents. The player can bet the maximum, $10, on each game. To Bet Max, the player will want to change the coin value from 25 cents up to $2. The max coins played is 5. So, if the coin value is changed up to the max, $2 per coin, then 5 x $2 is $10.

Once the player has decided at what value coin and to play one unit or the max units, the player hits the deal button. Five cards, like in five-card draw, will appear. The player then decides what cards to hold. The player can decide to hold all five cards or exchange up to all five cards. Once the player receives her new cards, the game is over with the player being paid out according to the payout table.

Aces and Eights – Winning Hands and Payouts

See below for the payout table in Aces and Eights in the online casino.

Coins 1 2 3 4 5
Royal Flush 250 500 750 1000 4000
Straight Flush 50 100 150 200 250
Four of a Kind 25 50 75 100 125
Full House 9 18 27 36 45
Flush 6 12 18 24 30
Straight 4 8 12 16 20
Three of a Kind 3 6 9 12 15
Two Pairs 2 4 6 8 10
Jacks or Better 1 2 3 4 5

Aces and Eights – Strategy/Tips

Based on the above table, the player will always want to play the max but be cognizant of their coin value. The more coins that you play the more you are likely to win. Playing only 1 coin per game isn’t going to help you much. Playing the max gives you the best chance for a sweet score, especially when you start hitting the Full House or higher.

The key is to understand your coin unit. If you’re only playing 25 cents, then playing the max coins equates to betting $1.25 per game. If you’re playing a dollar, then the max coins equate to $5 per game. The most important part of Aces and Eights is money management and having a grasp on how your per unit coin choice affects your overall gameplay and your bankroll.

Starting with $100

If you decide to start with $100, then playing the max, $2 per coin unit and 5 coins per game, equates to $10 played per game, which is 10 games played unless you win more coins. You can increase the games played to 20 by changing the unit to $1 per coin unit and 5 coins played per game: 5 coins played per game at $1 per coin = $1 x 5 = $5. $100 (100 games) / 5 = 20 games.

Keeping your Aces and Eights, if you have a shot at a four of a kind with them, goes without saying. But don’t forget about the higher payout on Four Sevens. You may end up getting rid of your Sevens, thinking that Queens and Jacks, as an example, are better and miss out on the opportunity of cashing big.

Deuces Wild Video Poker

The classic video poker game Deuces Wild is based on five-card draw poker. The game sets up almost exactly like five-card draw poker but while in draw poker, the most cards that a player can exchange is three, in Deuces Wild, after making a wager, the player can decide to exchange all five cards.

In Deuces Wild, the deuces are wild. What that means is that the deuces count for whatever is going to make the best possible hand!

Deuces Wild – How to Play

The player first must decide to bet one of the units or the max units. In the online casino, the minimum credit bet is 25 cents. The player can bet the maximum, $10, on each game. See below for the payout table in Deuces Wild in the online casino.

Coins 1 2 3 4 5
Natural Royal Flush 250 500 750 1000 4000
Four Deuces 200 400 600 800 1000
Deuces Royal 25 50 75 100 125
Five of a Kind 16 32 48 64 80
Straight Flush 13 26 39 52 65
Four of a Kind 4 8 12 16 20
Full House 3 6 9 12 15
Flush 2 4 6 8 10
Straight 2 4 6 8 10
Three of a Kind 1 2 3 4 5

Deuces Wild – Strategy/Tips

In Deuces Wild, besides understanding how to manage your bankroll, you’re also going to need to understand how the deuces play into the game. When it comes to bankroll, just keep in mind that the max number of coins played is 5. The max unit for each coin can be .25 cents, or $1.25 if you Bet Max, all the way up to $2, or $10 if you Bet Max.

Deuces Wild changes it up a big because the deuces are wild. What it means is that a straight, which pays 20 in Jacks or Better for 5 coins, will only pay 10 in Deuces Wild for the same number of coins played. This is because the chance of getting a straight in Deuces Wild is much better than it is in Jacks or Better.

Control your Bankroll

You will want to play the max number of coins but control your bankroll through your coin value. A good idea is to play .50 cents per coin or higher. At the max, .50 cents per coin equates to $2.50. This is a manageable number for each game. Not only that but at Three of a Kind, the lowest possible hand on the payout table, you get back $1.50. You save $1 on each bet that you make at the .50 cent coin value level.

The best strategy is to always play at least the .50 cent coin value for each Deuces Wild game. Never decrease to .25 cents per coin value, but increasing all the way up to $2 isn’t a bad strategy if your bankroll can handle it.

Video Keno

Video Keno Basics

Play the classic game of Video Keno in the online casino! Video Keno is one of the oldest games on record. The best way to describe it is to compare it to today’s modern state lotteries. Video Keno is a game where you select up to 10 numbers, called spots, from 1 to 80. 20 random numbers are drawn.
If your numbers match up with the numbers drawn, you win! It’s that simple! The more numbers that you match, the more you win! You can win up to 9000 to 1 if your 10 numbers match up to 10 numbers drawn!

Video Keno – How to Play

Playing Video Keno is incredibly easy. The first thing that you need to do is decide how many cards to play and the value of a single coin. You can play your coin value up to a $1. If your coin value is at $1, your max bet is $5 if you play the full 10 spots. Each spot is valued at half the value of your coin.
10 spots played = .50 cents per spot at a coin value of $1. Total played is $5. The total coins bet is 5.
Once you’ve chosen your coin value, and how many spots to play, you choose your spots. You can choose spots (numbers) from 1 to 80. 20 balls are drawn, each with a separate number on it. If your numbers match up with the numbers drawn, you win!

Video Keno – Game Features

Video Keno in the online casino has a few interesting features. The game is designed to make it as easy as possible for you to Buy Cards, Bet Max, and choose your spots. Once you’ve chosen your spots, the balls appear in two cylinders at the top of the screen, 10 balls on the bottom cylinder, and 10 balls on the top cylinder.
One of the best features in Video Keno is the payout table on the side. Payouts are based on how many numbers you play. See below for the payout table for playing 10 spots:
Match Payout
10 9000 to 1
9 900 to 1
8 90 to 1
7 18 to 1
6 4 to 1
5 3 to 1
4 2 to 1
3 1 to 1
0 2 to 1

Video Keno – You Win When

You win at Video Keno when the numbers are drawn to match up to your spots. It’s that simple. The more spots you play, the more money you win but the more spots you need to hit in order to win. For example, if you only play 5 spots, you will win 1 to 1 for getting 2 spots out of the 5.
If you play 10 spots, the payout starts at 3 spots. If you hit no spots and you’ve played 10 spots, though, you win 2 to 1.

Video Keno – Strategy and Tips

Always bet the max number of coins to ensure the largest payout. This is an absolute must when you are playing Video Keno. You want to make sure that when you hit all 10 of your spots that you’re getting the most possible on the payout.

Play patterns or stick to the same numbers played for a few games. Jumping around and playing different numbers with every round can lead to frustration. Mix up how many spots that you play as well. Don’t always play 10 spots, but never play less than 5 spots. You will want to play 6, 7, 8, or 9 spots once in a while. The reason to do this is to manage your money as Keno isn’t a skill game.

Play Keno for Fun

It’s a game of chance, meaning that you don’t play Video Keno thinking that you can make a living out of it. It’s a fun casino game that can pay off huge with some luck.
