The 2019-20 NCAA Men’s Basketball season is off to a terrific start and there have already been some amazing games. There are some great games on the schedule this weekend as well, but perhaps none bigger than a game that will take place in Las Vegas on Saturday. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Kentucky Wildcats will square off in a top-10 showdown and what will be our College Basketball Game of the Week.
Ohio State rattled off nine straight wins to begin the season before suffering a loss at Minnesota. The Buckeyes have climbed up to number five in the top-25 rankings. Kentucky comes into this week with a record of 8-1, but their one loss was a stunner. The Wildcats have won six straight games since suffering a shocking loss to Evansville.
Richards, Hagans Pacing Kentucky Squad
The Kentucky Wildcats are once again loaded with elite freshman talent, but they have a nice blend of returning talent as well. Kentucky comes into this week averaging 76 points per game, but they are giving up just 59 as a team. The Wildcats have already taken on some elite teams this season, and have impressive wins over Michigan State and Georgia Tech.
Forward Nick Richards has been the best interior player for the Wildcats this season, and Asthton Hagans is an elite talent at the guard position. Richards is leading the team with 13.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game this seasons. Hagans leads the team with 7.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game, and sets the table for this team.
Buckeyes Do Everything Well
The Ohio State Buckeyes might be one of the biggest surprises this season, but it’s easy to see how they win games. Ohio State is allowing just 57.6 points per game this season, which almost puts them in the top-10 in that category. The Buckeyes are also scoring 80 points per game, and they can get points in a hurry. Ohio State has also been solid on the glass, and they share the basketball extremely well.
Ohio State also has an All-American on their roster this season, which definitely helps. Forward Kaleb Wesson is averaging close to a double-double this season, and is a hard man to stop when he has the ball. Wesson is pouring in 14 points to go along with nine rebounds per game. Freshman guard D.J. Carton is off to a great start as well, and has chipped in with more than 10 points per game.
Wildcats Pick Up Impressive Victory
Both Ohio State and Kentucky will be competing for a top four seed in the NCAA Tournament this season, and this game could play a huge factor. Kentucky and Ohio State have both been tremendous so far this season, but each team does have a weird loss on their resume. Look for this to be a tight game throughout, but the Kentucky Wildcats just have a few more proven guys who have been in this situation. Bet the Kentucky Wildcats to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes by a small margin in the College Basketball Game of the Week.
