CSU Fullerton Looking to Bring Down the House

There have been big upsets in college basketball, but the CSU Fullerton Titans beating Duke in the opening round would be up there.

The sportsbook doesn’t think it will happen after installing the Titans as +18½ underdogs. We agree that it’s a far-fetched idea, but they could still cover the spread and go down fighting.

The Titans are 17-11-3 against the spread, so they have been a good bet and they’re 3-1 on neutral courts.

Statistically, they don’t match up well on offense or defense, but Duke hasn’t covered a spread since beating Pittsburgh on March 1.

There is a chance for the Titans to test the Blue Devils and it requires a good game from E.J. Anosike. He averages 16.5 points and 8.3 rebounds, so the forward is the key player for the underdogs.

Duke: Room for Improvement

We haven’t been overly impressed with what the Duke Blue Devils have produced over the last few weeks.

They might have attracted attention in March Madness betting markets as championship contenders, but we’re not convinced.

They have the individuals to beat any team, including future NBA picks Paulo Banchero and Wendell Moore Jr., but it doesn’t always translate to a team performance.

Having not covered a spread in their last four games, including straight-up losses to Virginia Tech and North Carolina, it’s not all roses for coach Mike Krzyzewski’s team.

They were -11 favorites to beat North Carolina and -5½ favorites to beat Virginia Tech, so covering spreads as favorites hasn’t been easy.

Duke is 1-3 ATS when facing a spread of more than 15 points, so that plays into the hands of CSU Fullerton backers.

The 82-67 loss to the Hokies was a shock and Coach K wants the players to focus on winning for themselves and not him.

“Last weekend the whole world was talking about it. So it was a very difficult weekend,” Krzyzewski told ESPN. “What we’ve tried to do is eliminate everything. These are young guys. I’ve loved coaching them. I think we can be good in the (NCAA) Tournament. I was really positive with them afterwards.”
