Spartans Making 24th Straight NCAA Tournament Appearance
Davidson Eyes First NCAA Tourney Win Since 2008
The seedings of both Michigan State and Davidson in the March Madness bracket were a little surprising.
Michigan State was 3-7 in its last 10 regular-season games and was just 5-9 in Quad 1 games. Davidson, despite an outstanding regular season, figured to be penalized a little more for its upset loss in the Atlantic 10 tournament, especially since the Wildcats only played 11 Quad 1 or Quad 2 games.

Davidson is looking to snap a five-game losing streak in the NCAA Tournament. Its last win came in the 2008 Sweet 16 against another Big Ten team in Wisconsin. The star of that team was current NBA 3-point king Stephen Curry.
Michigan State, which has played in the last 24 NCAA Tournaments, has failed to advance to the regionals in four of its last five. That recent track record will come into play as the March Madness predictions roll in.
Michigan State’s odds to win the national championship have fallen to +25000 while Davidson has the same odds. Michigan State (+5000) is slightly ahead of Davidson (+6000) in the odds to emerge out of the West Region.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and March Madness Odds for Davidson vs Michigan State. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.
Davidson Dynamic Duo Looking to Rebound
Davidson rode the hot shooting of Foster Loyer and Hyunjung Lee to the top of the Atlantic 10 during the regular season.
Lee averaged 18.5 points while shooting 56 percent from the field and 48 percent on 3-pointers as the Wildcats won seven of eight games, including a pair in the conference tournament. Loyer returned to the lineup after missing nearly three weeks and had two 20-point efforts in his first three games back.
With the Atlantic 10 tournament title on the line, neither of Davidson’s top two scorers could get into a rhythm. Loyer had seven points on 1- of-7 shooting while Lee contributed just five points on 1-of-9 shooting. It was the first time all season that at least one of the Wildcats’ top two scorers failed to score at least 10 points.
Look for both of them to bounce back and lead a Davidson team that ranks 18th nationally in field goal percentage and eighth in 3-point percentage.
Davidson has covered against the college basketball spreads in six of its last eight contests.
Health of Michigan State’s Walker Biggest Concern
Michigan State has been pretty fortunate in the injury department this season, with none of the nine players who averaged more than 10 minutes per game missing more than one contest. However, there is a major injury concern for the Spartans heading into Friday’s NCAA opener.
Tyson Walker, who leads Michigan State with 145 assists, suffered an ankle injury in the Big Ten tournament loss to Purdue that has his status for the Davidson game up in the air.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said that Walker won’t be practicing for at least a couple days, but with the game being on Friday, there is a chance for him to be ready to go.
Walker played just three minutes in the loss to Purdue before being forced to leave the game. He averaged 10 points and five assists in Michigan State’s first two games in the conference tournament. A.J. Hoggard played a season-high 34 minutes against Purdue and matched his season highs with 17 points and 10 assists.
Five of Michigan State’s last six games finished over the Las Vegas odds total.
Davidson vs Michigan State Head-to-Head
This is the first meeting between Davidson and Michigan State. Davidson is 9-15 against Big Ten teams.
The Wildcats have split two games against No. 7 seeds, losing to Iowa 83-52 in 2015 as a 2½-point underdog and topping Gonzaga 82-76 as a 1½-point favorite in 2008.
Michigan State is 4-1 when facing a team seeded 10th in the NCAA Tournament, including a 70-50 win over Minnesota as a 10½-point favorite in 2019. Something of interest to those who bet online: The Spartans are also 4-1 against the spread against No. 10 seeds.

Davidson vs Michigan State Prediction
Michigan State has won seven of its last eight games in the NCAA Tournament against mid-major teams and the March Madness odds lists the Spartans as slight favorites.
There should be plenty of 3-pointers in this one as both Davidson and Michigan State rank in the top 25 nationally in 3-point percentage.
Michigan State’s play has dipped a bit late in the season, but playing in a star-studded Big Ten will do that. Izzo’s track record when he has multiple days to prepare in the NCAA Tournament is very good and his Spartans look to get rolling.
Pick: Michigan State Spartans -1
