Duck! Oregon Betting Pick to Beat South Carolina

March Madness is all about the upsets and the excitement around the tournament. The Pac-12 champions, 11th-seeded Oregon, have a chance of doing that when facing No. 6 seed South Carolina. An 11th seed beating a sixth seed isn’t that surprising of an upset for March Madness picks, but it’s the start of some chaos in this year’s tournament.

As the fourth seed in the Pac-12 tournament, the Ducks went on to win the whole thing, beating Colorado 75-68 in the championship game. There were some expectations for the Gamecocks in the SEC tournament, but they were dominated by Auburn 86-55 in the quarterfinal.

Oregon vs South Carolina ATS Pick: Oregon +1½

There is a world in which Oregon is a great college basketball pick for the moneyline, but with this still being March Madness, taking it to cover the spread makes the most sense. Another reason not to completely jump on the Ducks’ bandwagon is that going into the Pac-12 tournament, they were not the hottest team.

Before starting the Pac-12 tournament, Oregon had lost three of the last four games. The Ducks also closed out the regular season with losses to Arizona and Colorado. However, in the Pac-12 tournament, they beat top-seeded Arizona 67-59 in the semifinals and then Colorado to win the championship.

On the other hand, there is some cause for concern in college basketball spreads. Oregon has only covered three spreads over the last 10 games, two of which came in the previous two wins of the Pac-12 tournament. Still, it is hard not to back a team that is getting hot at the right time.

This is especially true when Oregon is facing South Carolina, which fell short of expectations in the SEC tournament. After beating Arkansas 80-66, the Gamecocks were dominated by Auburn. It was the second time this season that South Carolina has lost to Auburn by 30 or more points.

Oregon vs South Carolina Over/Under Pick: Under 132½ -110

Both teams have relied on their defense in conference play, which is why college basketball lines could lean toward the under. In SEC play, South Carolina had the best defense in the conference, allowing 68.8 points per game. That defense is a big reason why the Gamecocks are the sixth seed in the NCAAs.

Oregon ranked third in the Pac-12 in points allowed per game (73.5). While two of the Ducks’ three games in the Pac-12 tournament went over, the defense remained reliable. They held one of the top offenses in the nation, Arizona, to just 59 points.

Oregon vs South Carolina Player Prop Pick: Jermaine Couisnard Over 4.5 assists (+104)

In Oregon’s run to the Pac-12 championship, Jermaine Couisnard played a crucial role. Over the three tournament wins, Couisnard averaged 14.7 points and 7.0 assists. Offensively, the team put the ball in his hands, and while Couisnard never led the game in scoring, he did everything else. He will now face a school he spent his first four seasons with, which should be a motivational bonus to go out and have a big game.
