Upset Danger with Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines have come alive at the right time and they’re a big danger to the Villanova Wildcats.

Their national championship odds are shortening with March Madness betting markets, which isn’t surprising after wins over Colorado State and Tennessee.

The Wolverines were +6½ underdogs against Tennessee, who had been well-favored to win the overall title. It was a statement 76-68 win and it should put them firmly in the tournament winner picture.

A key to the success has been center Hunter Dickinson, who led Michigan with 27 points and 11 rebounds in the Round of 32.

“Making it to the Sweet 16 is, as literal as it is, sweet because nobody believed in us,” Dickinson told ESPN. “Everybody thought we shouldn’t be in the tournament and now people that were hating on us are going home and about to watch us next week.”

The Wolverines don’t have an impressive against the spread record, but they have won three of their last four, so they’re heading in the right direction.

Villanova Cruising

As much as the Michigan Wolverines have hit form at the right time, the same applies to the Villanova Wildcats.

They’re shooting for their eighth consecutive victory and the perennial title contenders are strutting their stuff once again.

The sportsbook is starting to take notice of the Wildcats, who scored an 80-60 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens, which was followed by a gritty 71-61 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Wildcats have covered the spread in three of their last four games and they’re 8-1 on neutral courts, so that’s a huge asset coming into the Sweet 16.

Villanova has no problem playing away from home and that’s why it’s -5-point favorites. We don’t see much between the Wildcats and Wolverines on paper, but the Wildcats’ experience in winning big games on the road could give them the edge.

They could also exploit the poor Michigan defense, which ranks 205th in points allowed, 262nd in field goal percentage and 128th in 3-point percentage.

The most recent meeting between the Michigan Wolverines and Villanova Wildcats came in 2018, when Michigan won 73-46 as +6½ underdogs.

It was only a regular-season contest and it was the first time in the last three meetings that it went the way of the Wolverines.

They’re riding a hot streak and they have experience winning big games at the Sweet 16 level. Michigan might have reached its ceiling, but the skies are the limit for the Wildcats.

Bookmakers have the total at 135 and we see it going over. They are high-scoring teams and we’re predicting a 77-70 game, which will see the over cash with ease.
