Big 12 Team Expected to Dominate in NCAA Opener
West Region in 2022 Feels Much Like 2019
The Texas Tech Red Raiders, when they made the national championship game in 2019, were sent to the West Region as a No. 3 seed. Gonzaga was the top seed in the region that year.
All those details are once again in place. Texas Tech is the 3 seed in the West, hoping for a battle with the Zags in the Elite Eight. Texas Tech begins its push for the Final Four against Big Sky champion Montana State on Friday.

Let’s take a look at the March Madness odds and evaluate what’s the best choice for your college basketball picks here.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and March Madness Odds for Montana State vs Texas Tech. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.
Montana State: Steady Improvement
The Montana State Bobcats played really well at the Big Sky Conference Tournament, winning two games by more than 20 points, including the championship game against Northern Colorado.
The Bobcats scored over 80 points in two of their three wins, getting the level of offensive production they needed in order to be at their best. Montana State survived the one game in that tournament in which its offense wasn’t clicking.
The Bobcats beat Weber State 69-66 in the semifinals. MSU’s defense did not allow more than 66 points in any of its three wins in the Big Sky tournament.
That defensive performance will have to be replicated against Texas Tech. The Bobcats are highly unlikely to score more than 75 or 80 points in this game.
They will have to live with limitations and difficulties against the physical, rugged and formidable Red Raiders.
Texas Tech Attempts to Replicate History
The Texas Tech Red Raiders upset top-seeded Gonzaga in the Elite Eight in 2019 to make the Final Four.
Mark Adams was an assistant to head coach Chris Beard back then, and his defensive schemes were viewed as a central reason why Texas Tech beat Gonzaga and came within an eyelash of winning the national championship.
Adams is now the head coach at Texas Tech. He will once again rely on his defense to create a big run in the West Region, which might very well lead the Red Raiders to yet another Elite Eight matchup against Gonzaga.
This is the first step on the road to the Zags and maybe the Final Four.
Montana State vs Texas Tech Head-to-Head
This is the fourth meeting between the two teams. Texas Tech leads the all-time series 2-1. The three meetings occurred in the 1990s, the last one in 1996.

Montana State vs Texas Tech Prediction
The spread in the sportsbook is large, but so is the gap in talent and raw physical prowess between these two teams. Montana State has not seen an opponent as physically overwhelming as Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders’ defense is likely to dominate the Bobcats’ offense, setting the tone for what should be a decisive Tech victory. If you bet online, lay the points.
Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders -15
