Struggling Alabama Trying to Regain Form
It’s hard to know which Alabama team will be showing up. Will it be the one that owns wins over Gonzaga and Tennessee and also took down Auburn? Or the one that fell to Texas A&M, Louisiana State and Vanderbilt in its last three games. Still, the March Madness odds have Alabama listed as a favorite as the Crimson Tide prepares for its NCAA Tournament opener.
Alabama is one of the top-scoring teams in the nation but can also give up points in bunches, while Notre Dame should carry some momentum after its double-overtime win against Rutgers in a play-in game. More than a few March Madness predictions have the Crimson Tide primed to be an upset victim.
Alabama (+1800) has the sixth-best odds to emerge out of the Midwest Region while Notre Dame comes in at +12500.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and March Madness Odds for Notre Dame vs Alabama. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.
Notre Dame Eyes More March Madness Success
Paul Atkinson was nearly a part of what would have been a monumental upset against an SEC team back in 2019 as he had nine points and two blocked shots in 19 minutes in Yale’s five-point loss to third-seeded Louisiana State. The Ivy League graduate has a chance to taste victory in the March Madness bracket against a team from the SEC, thanks to some late-game heroics in Wednesday’s First Four victory against Rutgers.
Atkinson grabbed a missed shot from teammate Blake Wesley in the final seconds of the second overtime and hit the game-winning shot in the 89-87 classic. Atkinson had 26 points on 13-of-15 shooting in Notre Dame’s first NCAA Tournament game since 2017.

Atkinson was coming off a five-point effort in a loss to Virginia Tech in the ACC tournament, a performance that left Notre Dame’s NCAA hopes in limbo
Notre Dame has covered against the Las Vegas odds in five of its last seven games.
Shackelford, Alabama Look to Get Back on Track
Much like the Alabama team he leads, Jaden Shackelford has found success harder to come by as the season progressed.
Back in early December Shackelford made 6 of 8 from 3-point range and lit up nationally ranked Gonzaga for 28 points on just 16 shots to send the message to the rest of the SEC and the country that they play more than football at Alabama. Wins over Tennessee and defending national champion Baylor would follow. However, Alabama limped home with three straight losses, including one to Vanderbilt in the SEC tournament.
Shackelford shot better than 40 percent in just one of his last eight games.
Shackelford’s season could be summed up in three games over eight days in early February. He had 26 points in a four-point loss to Auburn, disappeared with six points on 2-of-11 shooting against Kentucky and then went off for 30 against Ole Miss.
The Crimson Tide will need Shackelford to be at his best facing a Notre Dame team that won a thrilling double-overtime decision over Rutgers in a First Four game.
Alabama has covered against the college basketball spreads in just four of its last 18 games.
Notre Dame vs Alabama Head-to-Head
The teams haven’t met since 2015 when Alabama, listed as a 10½-point underdog, won 74-73 on a basket in the final 15 seconds. Notre Dame had won the previous two matchups, but those results won’t be of much help to those who bet online since they were played in 2005 and 2006.
The last time Alabama played against a No. 11 seed, the result was a 10-point loss to UCLA last year as a seven-point favorite. The game went over the 144½ point total.
Notre Dame last played against a No. 6 seed in 2015 and topped Butler 67-64 as a 4½-point favorite.

Notre Dame vs Alabama Prediction
Alabama is coming off a run to the Sweet 16 in the 2021 NCAA Tournament but is not playing with much confidence right now. The Crimson Tide are one of the top offensive rebounding teams in the country and should have the edge in that department even though Notre Dame advanced on an offensive rebound and put-back.
Notre Dame committed just five turnovers in 50 minutes in the NCAA First Four win against Rutgers and will need to take care of the ball against an Alabama team that loves to get out in transition.
This game has plenty of upset vibes and Alabama would be advised not to let the underdog Notre Dame team hang around. The Fighting Irish are 3-0 in overtime games this season and have won the last three games decided by three points or less.
Pick: Over 151½
Pick: Notre Dame Fighting Irish +4
