Saint Peter’s Makes Return to the Big Dance

It’s been awhile since the Saint Peter’s Peacocks were a part of March Madness, as this will be their first appearance since 2011. The Peacocks have won seven in a row heading into Thursday’s contest, but they’ll need to really be at their best to stay close to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Saint Peter’s isn’t a very high-scoring team, averaging just 66.9 points. It’s at the defensive end of the floor where the Peacocks shine, holding team’s to a MAAC-best 61.8 points per game.

Guard Daryl Banks III leads the offensive charge for the Peacocks, averaging 11.0 points per game. He’s joined in double digits by forward KC Ndefo, who scores 10.6 points and grabs 6.2 rebounds per contest. The Peacocks will have to hit the boards as a team to counter the size advantage of the Wildcats.

Kentucky Looks to Rebound

There was a lot of talk about people making the Kentucky Wildcats the favorite for a title run heading into the SEC tourney semifinals on Saturday, but Kentucky fell to the Tennessee Volunteers. National Player of the Year candidate Oscar Tshiebwe had 13 points and 11 rebounds to notch his 15th consecutive double-double, but it wasn’t enough for the win.

“This was kind of an off-day for us,” Tshiebwe said after Saturday’s loss. “We didn’t really make a shot. We still have our confidence, and we’re going to be ready (for the NCAAs.”

Tshiebwe has been dominant in the paint in his first season with the Wildcats after transferring from West Virginia. The SEC Player of the Year is averaging 17.0 points and leads the nation with 15.1 rebounds per game.

Freshman guard TyTy Washington Jr. has been outstanding as well, averaging 12.8 points and 4.0 assists. He’s also averaging 1.3 steals and shooting 34.7 percent from 3-point range and he’ll be a key to Kentucky’s title chances.

Saint Peter’s vs Kentucky Head-to-Head

This will be the first-ever matchup between the Saint Peter’s Peacocks and the Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky obviously has much more experience at playing in the NCAA Tournament, but the Peacocks won’t back down in this one.

Still, the disparity between the two programs is obvious and the college basketball lines reflect that.

Saint Peter’s vs Kentucky Prediction

The Kentucky Wildcats were likely woken up a bit by their SEC tournament loss to the Tennessee Volunteers. That’s not a good sign for the Saint Peter’s Peacocks, who don’t have the size or scoring to keep up with Kentucky for long.

This one shouldn’t be close for long as Tshiebwe dominates in the paint and the Wildcats turn it into a rout in a hurry.

When making your college basketball picks, take Kentucky to easily win and cover to advance.
