Big East Meets Big 12 in 8-9 Matchup

Both Teams Relieved to be Part of March Madness

Neither of these teams shoots the ball consistently well, which is why both squads rely heavily on their ability to pull down offensive rebounds so this could be a fierce showdown with plenty of trips to the foul line. March Madness odds have this as a near pick’em game.

Both Seton Hall and TCU had to breathe a sigh of relief when they were included in the March Madness Bracket and perhaps that will energize both of these teams who endured periods of mediocre play in recent weeks.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and March Madness Odds for Texas Christian vs Seton Hall. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.

TCU Seeks First NCAA Win in 35 Years

Missed shots have become one of the best offensive plays for a TCU team that is among the worst 3-point shooting teams in the country.

TCU is in the top 10 nationally in offensive rebounds per game. The Horned Frogs are 8-2 when they have at least 15 offensive rebounds.

TCU’s prowess for chasing down its missed shots has slowed in recent games as the Horned Frogs have fewer than 10 offensive boards in four of the last seven games. TCU went 1-3 in the games when it was limited below double digits in offensive rebounds.

Eddie Lampkin leads the way with 90 offensive rebounds and Emanuel Miller has pulled down 80.

This will be TCU’s second NCAA appearance since 1999 and the Horned Frogs haven’t won a game in the NCAAs since 1987, although TCU did win the 2017 NIT title and reached the semifinals in 2019. This will be the 13th NCAA Tournament appearance for TCU head coach Jamie Dixon, with 11 of them coming at Pittsburgh.

Seton Hall Overcomes Injuries

It might be hard to find a team bitten harder by the injury bug than Seton Hall.

Five players have been out since either January or February, but none more important to Seton Hall’s success than second-leading scorer Bryce Aiken.

The former Harvard star hasn’t played since scoring 28 points against Marquette on Jan. 15. At that point, the Pirates were 11-5 with all the losses by six points or less.

Since Aiken has been sidelined, Jared Rhoden has become something of a marathon man for the Pirates, playing at least 35 minutes eight times.

Seton Hall, like Friday’s opponent, ranks in the top 20 nationally in offensive rebounding, so the battle for loose balls could be something worth keeping an eye on.

This is Seton Hall’s fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last seven seasons, although the Pirates have been eliminated in the first round in three of their last four March Madness trips.Seven of Seton Hall’s last eight games finished over the college basketball spreads total.

Texas Christian vs Seton Hall  Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting between the teams. Seton Hall is 17-23 against teams from the Big 12, with most of them coming when the Pirates were in the Big East along with West Virginia.

Something that could be of interest to those who bet online: Seton Hall is 2-0 against No. 9 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, defeating North Carolina State in 2018 as a 3½-point favorite and winning against Arizona in 2004 as a three-point underdog.

Texas Christian vs Seton Hall Prediction

Neither team is going to light things up offensively, which is why the total came in at just 130. The teams appear to be closely matched, as to be expected when a No. 8 and 9 seed match up. It will make for a tough call in the March Madness predictions.

This will be about the battle inside for two very aggressive teams, especially in the rebounding department. Seton Hall is the slight favorite, but considering that TCU owns wins over Kansas, Texas Tech and Texas in its last six games, it makes more sense to go with the Horned Frogs in this one.

Pick: TCU Horned Frogs +1
