Is UConn The Smart Betting Choice vs Duke In The Women’s Sweet 16?

One of women’s college basketball perennial powerhouse teams, the No.3 UConn Huskies are looking to make quick work of No. 7 seed Duke Blue Devils, the lowest-ranked team remaining in the tournament, in their coming Sweet 16 round matchup.

With this March Madness throwdown slated to pop off on Saturday, March 30 at 8:00 PM ET, at the MODA Center in Portland Oregon, and being broadcasted by ESPN, will the Huskies be able to cruise right on to the Elite Eight round, or will the Blue Devils give the eleven-time national title winners a true run for their money?

Is UConn The Smart Betting Choice vs Duke In The Women’s Sweet Sixteen?

Duke, led by former WNBA star turned head coach Kara Lawson, has proven they’re not to be underestimated after their impressive 75-63 victory over Ohio State in Columbus. With a talented young roster and the paint-protecting presence of 6’5 center Kennedy Brown, the Blue Devils are poised to give UConn a run for their money.

However, the Huskies, eager to return to the Final Four after last season’s absence, have been dominant in the Big East, going 18-0 and cruising through the conference tournament. Despite a 1-4 record against ranked non-conference opponents, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma has faith in his star guard, Paige Bueckers, whom he touts as the best player in the country.

As the Huskies aim for their 12th straight win in Portland, will Duke’s Cinderella story continue, or will UConn’s championship pedigree prove too much to overcome?

Can Duke Pull Off The Massive Betting Upset? (h3)

Duke’s surprising tournament run began with a comeback victory over 10th-seeded Richmond in the first round, as Richardson led the charge with 25 points.

The Blue Devils then pulled off a stunning upset in the second round, knocking off 2nd-seeded Ohio State 75-63 on the Buckeyes’ home court. Richardson was unstoppable once again, pouring in 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting, as Duke overcame a 16-point deficit by clamping down defensively in the second half.

Duke’s success can be attributed to their balanced scoring attack and suffocating defense. Along with Richardson’s heroics, junior guard Taina Mair has been a steady presence, averaging 10.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

However, the Blue Devils face their toughest test yet against the 3rd-seeded UConn Huskies. To have a chance at advancing to the Elite Eight, Duke must focus on containing UConn’s star guard Bueckers, crashing the boards to limit the Huskies’ second-chance points, and maintaining a balanced scoring attack to keep UConn’s defense honest.

Disrupting the Huskies’ rhythm and forcing them into a half-court battle will be crucial, as UConn thrives in transition and playing at a fast pace. Duke’s deeper bench, led by players like Jadyn Donovan and Amaya Finklea-Guity, could also provide a much-needed boost late in the game.

Championship Pedigree Is Real, Just Look At UConn (h3)

The Huskies, unusually seeded as a #3 this year, have had to overcome a rash of injuries to key players throughout the season. Despite these challenges, UConn has persevered, handily defeating Jackson State in the first round and securing a hard-fought 77-66 victory over Syracuse in the second round.

Leading the charge for the Huskies is sophomore sensation Bueckers, who has put up jaw-dropping numbers, becoming the first player in the last 25 seasons to record 60 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists through the first two NCAA tournament games. Veteran point guard Nika Muhl and star forward Aaliyah Edwards have also been instrumental in UConn’s success.

However, the Huskies have struggled against top-tier competition this season, going 0-5 against opponents seeded #3 or higher. As they advance, UConn will likely find themselves in the unfamiliar position of being underdogs, with little room for error due to their depleted bench.

To overcome the surging Blue Devils, UConn will need to focus on containing Duke’s star sophomore guard Reigan Richardson, who has been averaging an impressive 22 points per game in the tournament. The Huskies must also dominate the paint, utilizing their size advantage with standout forwards Edwards and Dorka Juhász, while maintaining a balanced scoring attack to keep Duke’s defense on their toes.

Limiting turnovers and getting quality minutes from their thin bench will also be crucial for UConn as they aim to secure their record-breaking 30th consecutive Sweet 16 appearance and continue their quest for another national championship. With potential matchups against #1 seed USC, the Huskies will need to bring their A-game to keep their title hopes alive this weekend.

While the Blue Devils have the tools to pull off the upset, UConn’s talent and experience make them the toughest opponent to date. Duke will need to execute their game plan flawlessly and play their best basketball to take down the Huskies and continue their Cinderella run in this thrilling Sweet 16 showdown.
