Ivy League Champs Face Big Ten Power
Purdue Due a Statement Win
The Purdue Boilermakers were once the top-ranked team in the country, so they’ll see their opening-round game against the Yale Bulldogs as easy work.
NCAA lines have the Boilermakers at -15½, which is a big line to cover. Ivy League champion Yale has had a good season, but it hasn’t faced this level of opposition.

Keeping up with Purdue is a big task and the question will be answered on Friday afternoon.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and March Madness Odds for Yale vs Purdue. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.
Yale Setting Sail
The Yale Bulldogs are hoping to ride the wave of momentum after winning three consecutive games, including the Ivy League tournament championship.
They covered all three games with the sportsbook, including as +3½ underdogs against Princeton for the title. It was a gritty 66-64 performance and it should give them the confidence of sticking with the Purdue Boilermakers.
However, they had a seven-point halftime lead that they let slip. They won’t be able to afford any poor patches against the class of Purdue.
Despite the recent success, Yale is 15-15 against the spread. It has been a +15-point underdog only once, which resulted in a failed cover, so that gives bettors a guide.
The offensive and defensive numbers don’t stack up well. The Bulldogs rank outside the top 135 in points scored and points allowed, which pales in comparison to Purdue’s No. 7 ranking in offensive points scored.
Our biggest worry is whether the Bulldogs can defend. They are good at defending the three-point line but they rank 229th in rebounding, so Purdue could get a lot of second-chance points.
Bump in Road for Purdue
Losing to Iowa in the Big Ten tournament final was a bump in the road for the Purdue Boilermakers, but they can rebound.
The 75-66 loss came as the -2½ favorites, and it was the seventh loss for a team that looked indestructible early on.
The Boilermakers started like a house on fire, but recent losses to Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan State have dented their confidence.
Bettors have been hammered for following, which includes a run of 10 games without covering the spread. It’s an incredible run of outs for the Boilermakers, who are 0-8-2 against the spread in the last 10 games.
Despite these overwhelming statistics, NCAA betting odds expect them to score an easy win over Yale, and perhaps the Bulldogs are the perfect opponent.
Purdue needs an easy win to restore confidence levels. Jaden Ivey took self-blame for the Iowa loss.
“I did a horrible job today just leading and trying to get us back in the game,” Ivey told ESPN, despite having 20 points and six assists. “I felt like I made some bad reads and some turnovers and I feel like I lost this game.”
March Madness betting has Purdue safe in the market to win the title, so there is confidence.
Yale vs Purdue Head-to-Head

Yale vs Purdue Prediction
We think the Yale Bulldogs are outmatched, and despite the Purdue Boilermakers having a dreadful time covering spreads, they should cover here.
It’s unlikely that 15½ points will be enough for the Bulldogs, who struggle defensively and that’s not a good sign against the high-powered offense of Purdue.
Purdue has been facing lower-level opposition and there just isn’t enough firepower for Yale to keep up.
The Boilermakers are 6-1 at neutral sites, so they don’t mind playing without a home crowd. They will need to perform better than in recent assignments, but Ivey and Zach Edey should take it on their shoulders and lead Purdue into the second round without much fuss.
Pick: Purdue Boilermakers -15½
