ACC Predictions and Odds: Syracuse Top NCAAB Pick on Jan 7

This is not looking like the best season in the proud history of ACC men’s basketball. Eight ACC teams have yet to win a true road game as conference play is set to heat up with eight games on Tuesday or Wednesday.

No. 4 Duke is the only ACC team in the top 25 in the latest Associated Press poll. Duke will face Pittsburgh in a matchup of two of the three teams still perfect in conference play. That will be one of the four ACC games on Tuesday.

When looking at the NCAA basketball future odds, Duke, led by dynamic freshman Cooper Flagg, is the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC title. Pittsburgh is the only other ACC team in the top 20 in the latest NCAA NET rankings. This is certainly not the Michael Jordan-Ralph Sampson ACC.

Let’s check out my best college basketball picks this week for the ACC.

Top 3 NCAAB Predictions for the ACC This Week

1. Syracuse To Cover As Slight Home Favorite is Best Bet on Tuesday

Normally a showdown between a pair of teams still undefeated in conference play would dominate the college basketball news. However, when looking at the four ACC games scheduled for Tuesday, the matchup between Pittsburgh and Duke isn’t as compelling as some matchups between unranked teams.

Based on the BetUS sportsbook, the most competitive game might come when Georgia Tech plays at Syracuse in a game listed as a pick’em. The total of 156 is also the highest of the four games.

Syracuse just got leading scorer J.J. Starling back after the Orange went 2-5 without the player averaging 18.7 points per game.

Lance Terry is averaging 18.7 points over his last three games for Georgia Tech.

When looking at the college basketball trends, the home team has won each of the last 13 games between Clemson and Louisville. The Cardinals are favored by 3.5 points at home.

North Carolina is fortunate to be 2-1 in the ACC with a three-point win over Georgia Tech and needing a four-point play by Elliot Cadeau with four seconds left to edge Notre Dame the last time out.

2. Game of the Week: Louisville at Pittsburgh

Yes, we know that Tuesday’s showdown between Pittsburgh and Duke features teams that are a combined 7-0 in the ACC this season. However, Saturday’s matchup between Pittsburgh and Louisville could be a more competitive game.

Per Louisville vs Pittsburgh stats, the Panthers have won five games in a row in the series and covered against the spread in the last six meetings.

However, the additions of transfers Chucky Hepburn (Wisconsin), Terrence Edwards (James Madison), Reyne Smith (College of Charleston) and J’vonne Hadley (Colorado) make Louisville a team to watch in the ACC this season.

Louisville has played without double-digit scorer Kesean Pryor since a five-point loss to Oklahoma in late November.

The Cardinals opened 2025 with back-to-back wins over North Carolina and Virginia.

Pittsburgh’s most challenging ACC game to date was a 64-59 win at Virginia Tech. The Panthers have been battling injuries with just six players appearing in all 14 games.

Duke trails only Auburn in the odds of winning the national title among ACC teams. There is a large gap with North Carolina second at +6000 and Pittsburgh third at +7500 in the championship odds while Clemson and Louisville are at +10000.

3. Duke’s Cooper Flagg a Top Player Prop Option

Let’s not overthink things. There are plenty of reasons why Duke freshman Cooper Flagg was one of the most hyped recruits in recent memory.

Even while the Blue Devils piled up the wins, he was struggling a bit with his shot. That hasn’t been the case recently. Flagg has back-to-back games with 24 points and he is shooting 61.5% in those two games. He is also 12-for-12 at the foul line. Flagg is always a top candidate when it comes to the best ACC player prop options.

Keep an eye on Louisville guard Reyne Smith as he has 18 3-pointers over his last four games.
